From the article: Alcohol and Pregnancy Don't Mix
In the US the thoughts about alcohol and pregnancy are strict from a medical standpoint. You do it and you risk Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) or Fetal Alcohol Effects (FAE. The thoughts in Europe are very different with many women enjoying occasional glasses of wine or beer in pregnancy with no thought to ill effects. There is a huge difference between light drinking and binge drinking, there is also a difference in timing with fetal development. There are studies for both. Why take the risk?
- Having alcoholic drinks for the taste or the buzz just isn't worth it when it could affect the health of your unborn child. I didn't drink when I was pregnant. If a woman can't wait a few months to have a drink, then I'd say she should think long and hard about her relation to alcohol.

Drinking during pregnancy
- I'm currently pregnant with baby #2. I have so far had half a glass of wine at week 25. With my last pregnancy I had, maybe, 4 to 5 drinks the entire 9 months of pregnancy. I don't see anything wrong with the occasional alcoholic drink, emphasis on OCCASIONAL.

Why Risk It?
- Since there is no known safe limit, why risk it? Nine months isn't that long and I can hold off until the baby is out to celebrate with a glass of wine.

- I could have a glass of wine with my anniversary dinner at 35 weeks. I was going to do it because it sounded reasonable, but in the end I couldn't.
