The Boppy Tummy Play - Play Pad is something you may want to consider as a baby shower gift. It's still cute enough to get that awww factor but practical to boot. The theory behind tummy time is that babies now sleep on their backs for their health, so they don't get as much time on their stomach. This can lead to a flattening of the skull. So the Boppy Tummy Play - Play Pad helps baby get in and maintain a belly down position.
There is a pad, shaped like a leaf, a small Boppy pillow and toys. You can attach the toys to the pillow or the pad with links. This is designed to entertain baby. Though you can also remove them for baby to play with at times.
The only issue we had when our baby was small. We'd put her on the pad and she'd roll off the edge because of it's irregular shape. It's shaped like a leaf but it's more oval so it was long enough just a tad skinny side to side. This wasn't an issue for long and wouldn't prevent me from giving this as a gift. I corrected the situation by putting another blanket on the edge. I'm also a self admitted germ phobic.
