Calf Stretch in Pregnancy

The calf stretch can help prevent leg cramps in pregnancy.

This is a great calf stretch for your entire pregnancy. You will start by standing on a solid, safe surface, like an exercise mat with your feet about shoulder width apart, facing the same direction. Step forward with your right foot, bending at the knee. Your left knee is bent slightly. In this position, you will stretch your left calf by straightening and bending the left knee. Hold each stretch about 10-15 seconds. You should do this 2-3 times per leg. Some find that alternating each leg is more helpful.

Use a chair or the wall to help you balance, particularly as your pregnancy progresses. Your center of gravity will start to change around the fourth month of pregnancy, which might make you feel less stable. This is a great way to prevent leg cramps.
