Nitrous Oxide for Childbirth

Definition: Nitrous oxide is a gas, added to oxygen, that when inhaled, causes a relaxation and calming. In some areas it is used as a pain management technique for childbirth as opposed to other pain medications.

Once the inhalation has stopped the effects quickly disappear. It also allows more movement than epidural anesthesia and may have fewer effect on the newborn than IV medications.

Also Known As: Nitrous, laughing gas, gas and air
Examples:
For my last birth I used nitrous oxide for my pain in childbirth.
