Celebrity Inspired Baby Names

The hit show Glee has inspired lots of things, from singing to baby names. Here is a run down of the Glee characters and the meaning of their names:
  • Artie Abrams

Artie is from Arthur and is American for bear.

  • Rachel Berry

This is a Hebrew name meaning ewe or a sheep.

  • Tina Cohen-Chang

Tina is a nickname, usually, which is short for all names ending in -tina, like Christina, follower of Christ (English).

  • Quinn Fabray

Quinn is a unisex name, but it's character is anything but unisex. The name is an Irish surname meaning follower of Conn.

  • Finn Hudson

Finn truly lives up to his Irish name, which means fair, but in coloring and in manner.

  • Kurt Hummel

Kurt means courteous and is an American name. It can also be short for Curtis.

  • Mercedes Jones

Spanish for merciful, this character is saucy and not unlike her name sake, in a tough love kind of way.

  • Santana Lopez

Holy (spanish) is the translation of this name, but if you've watched the show irreverent is more likely...

  • Brittany S. Pierce

From Britain (British) is what this means, though this is probably not where you thought she was from...

  • Emma Pillsbury-Howell

Universal (Latin) is the meaning of this name, and while the name seems to fit the character, the meaning doesn't.

  • Noah Puckerman

While he's known as Puck on the show, his real name is Noah, which means rest or peace (Hebrew). This is totally not what you'd think of for this character.

  • Will Schuester

Will, short for William, is English for strong willed warrior. Mr. Schue, as the kids call him, is strong willed, but a bit on the meek side, until you cross him.

  • Sue Sylvester

Short for Susan, this is an English name for lily. Though Sue's character is not the dainty flower you'd expect.
