Joy From Sorrow

We found out we were pregnant just after Christmas 1998. We planned on telling our families around Valentine's Day. Unfortunately, my husband's grandfather suddenly got quite ill in the last part of January, and the doctors told us he probably would not recover. Since he and my husband were always quite close, and since Mike was the only grandson, Mike decided to tell him in the hospital. Mike told him our news, and asked him to keep our little secret. Two days later, grandpa died.

After the funeral, everyone was sitting around, teary eyed, and reminiscing about grandpa, when Mike stood up and said, "A few days ago, when I was visiting grandpa in the hospital, I asked grandpa if he could keep a secret. Grandpa said "sure" so I told him. Then grandpa said," that's wonderful! I'm so happy for you and Nancy".

Well it didn't take long for everyone to figure out what we were alluding to, and there wasn't a dry eye in the house. Mike's grandma was especially happy, and she said we really brightened the otherwise sad day for her.

It was a very touching moment.
