Preterm Labor

Q. I've heard there is a test to predict preterm labor. Do you know anything about it?

A. You are probably talking about the Fetal Fibronectin Test (fFN). The fFN protein when detected is supposedly 99+% accurate in predicting negative results. It is done like a pap smear, but can be costly to do. The hopes are that this will enable doctors to prevent preterm labor, reduce the numbers of women on anti-contraction medications, and produce healthier babies.
