Nuchal fold testing is something that is a more recent prenatal test.  The nice part about it is that it is not as invasive as other tests that can be used to screen for Down Syndrome, like the AFP, triple, quad or penta screens.  The nuchal fold testing can also be done a bit earlier in pregnancy using ultrasound to measure the back of your baby's neck.

Have you had this test done?

We had this test done just yesterday. It took a while while they do the ultrasound and check for everything. We were glad to here that everything is ok with our little one. We thought we were around the 11 week mark but found out we are now 12 weeks and 2 days. The test was just a basic ultrasound where they measure parts of the baby.

There is a new test for detection of downs syndrome and other chromosomal abnormalities! It is just a simple BLOOD DRAW!! The mother’s blood contains DNA from the fetus. It is highly technical to explain, but it is 100% accurate! It can be done at 10 weeks, and if it is negative, you don’t have to get an amnio or CVS. I heard two labs are doing this test. My doctor used a company called Verinata I think. Ask your doctor about it.
