Deadly Risk of Induction

Wednesday May 7, 2008
A study in The Lancet shows that the risk of an amniotic fluid embolism (AFE) is doubled in a drug induced labor. While the rate of amniotic fluid embolisms are low, this possible complication will be a damper on social inductions. A social induction is not for a medical reason but something other than that, like choice of a due date or practitioner. We know that inductions, in general, are on the rise. Inductions are also known to cause some other risks to increase, like the risk of a cesarean section, requests for pain medication and fetal distress. What are you thoughts on social induction?
