Giving birth is hard work and postpartum is the sweet reward, but many of the things that happen can be very surprising. What was the one thing that really surprised you? Was it the belly that didn't go down immediately? The postpartum bleeding? Breastfeeding? Share Your Experience

4 years ago I had a daughter who was still born. Now I have 2 sons ages 1 and 3 who I love dearly . I'm now 21 weeks pregnant and although I asked not to find out the sex at my 20 week scan from the disk they gave me I'm 99 percent sure it's boy. I feel devastated about this as I was really hoping for a girl this time. I'm not sure I can cope with going through another pregnancy as I have suffered from very bad varicose veins during this and my last pregnancy. Also I have to inject myself everyday because I have a blood clotting disorder. I know I should be grateful to have a healthy baby but I cant help feel that I have been robbed of the chance of ever having another daughter. No one I talk to really understands even my husband. Also I just found out my sister who is few weeks further than me is having a girl and although I'm happy for her I can't help but feel a bit jealous. The idea of shopping for boys clothes doesn't excite me as I've done it all before and don't really need anymore.

I just learned about the bleeding and it last 2-8 weeks!! I've never once heard about that and I start my third trimester in a couple of weeks! Plenty of my cousins, aunts, friends have been pregnant and no one has mentioned this once! I've heard about hard deliveries and everything I thought was 'bad' about labour. How did I not know this? If people taught others this no one would ever have a baby!

Sleep is hard to come by...

It was so hard to sleep even though i was so tired. If the baby was awake, then i could not sleep, even if someone else was watching him. I could only sleep when he slept and if he was next to me. I was very surprised by how hard it was to let him go!
