From the article: What a Newborn Baby Looks Like
Most people are surprised at the look of a newborn. Babies are certainly not the images we see in commercials or ads. Babies can have puffy bodies, with fine hair, or a cheesy coating. They might have hands and feet that are blue or peeling skin. What did you notice about your baby that surprised you? Share Your Experience
Like a bird
- My kids were all born curled up like birds. It surprised how their arms and legs were so tightly curled in. They were all fairly long and I'm kind of tiny -- not sure if they were extra curled because they had little room to move or if this is just normal. It took at least 6 weeks for them to seem straightened out.

Bump on the Head
- Both my sons had hematomas. My second son actually didn't have it at birth, it developed 12 hours or so afterward. At birth the nurses commented on how his skull looked perfect (like a cesarean birth). The next day, he had a huge bump. They actually x-rayed it to be sure it was a hematoma. Both times, although reassured by doctors that it was not a problem, I was very scared and upset until the bump went away. They say you just have to check the baby's coloring to be sure that they are not yellow/jaundiced. Eventually they went down and both boys are find.

Her face!
- It was all mangled looking. I was frightened but they told it was normal. The next day you couldn't even tell.
