Readers Respond: What helped you with morning sickness?
Responses: 59

By , About.com Guide

Morning sickness is something that strikes many pregnant women, mostly in the first trimester. The range of pregnancy symptoms runs from nausea occasionally to 24/7 with or without vomiting. Mothers who experience any variation of morning sickness will tell you that it is annoying at best and debilitating at worst.

However, lots of moms have found things that help decrease their symptoms. Was it a special diet? A certain relaxation exercise? A medication? What worked for you? Share Your Tips

Feel the pain

I think I'm about 8-9 weeks and I can't keep enything down, I'm hungry, I eat and then run to the bathroom to vomit, don't know what else to do. It comes and goes all day long until I fall asleep. Hope it goes away soon.

Pregnancy Vitamins

I'm 6 weeks pregnant, and not suffering from morning sickness at all. Feel a bit queasy during the day at times, but nothing too bad. I'm sure it's the vitamins that really help - my sister felt really sick during her pregnancies when she didn't take them.

Pretty difficult

Hi there, I'm 9 weeks so far and since week 5 I've been so sick with nausea and headaches. Also incredibly tired and lazy! I've tried a lot for the nausea, but what seems to work the best for me is..eating something every 2 hours, drinking ginger ale and ginger tea. I also got some pills from the doctor which are working great. Name of the pills is "Emesafene" and is supposed to prevent the sickness. Both doctors promised me it does not harm the fetus. Hope this helps. Good luck to all pregnant ladies out there!

This is Awful

So, I'm about 5-7 weeks right now. I can't believe the amount of sleep I have lost in these last few weeks and the horrible dizziness and nausea I have ALL day long. Honestly, after this feeling, I'm not even sure I am physically able to finish and carry out. Of course I will do my best but right now, nothing seems to be working for me. Small snacks just don't do it for me. The best way to describe this feeling is like a hangover. Or like I have foam building in my stomach. Please, my goodness, what can I do to make it through these next few weeks.

nothing

My first son is 2 and I was sick with him 24/7. I am almost 6 weeks this time and feeling pretty sick. This time it seems to come mostly at night and nothing takes it away. I think the only thing I didn't try last time was the wrist bands...think I will this time if it gets bad.

Feeling sick

I am six weeks with my first and I just feel sick all day. I feel a terrible ulcer, my mouth taste bitter and my stomach is just upset all day. I don't know what to do. My gyno prescribed Gaviscon, the taste is awful and I hate it.

Morning Sickness

I'm 18 and I'm 6 weeks pregnant and I have nausea almost everyday. What help's settle my stomach is drinking Fanta Ginger Ale and hugging a fluffy pillow. I don't know why but it helps me!

Oh boy...

I believe I'm about five or six weeks along and dang do I have some terrible nausea. Eating anything at all helps me feel better but I can barely do anything but lay down when the nausea kicks in...

Food

I'm six weeks pregnant (yeah!) and haven't thrown up, but I've been very nauseated. So far I've really noticed that lots of small snacks have helped. I just grab up a handful of crackers and then later maybe an apple. It's been good.

morning sickness at 25 weeks

I'm 24 weeks and still having morning sickness. This is my second pregnancy and I had morning sickness every day with my first. I've tried ginger, lemon and anything else recommended. They help only for about half an hour then I vomit it all out again. Terrible pregnancies I've had, but for my babies, it's worth it.

Lemon Drops

I was sick a couple times a day with my daughter now 6 months.. I am 7 weeks along again and I am sick all day everyday I get no breaks. I find to help in sucking on lemon drops and lemonade. Also the only thing I can keep down is a ham sandwhich, no idea why! And also powerade helps settle my stomach also.!

Mornin',noon and night sickness..... :(

Oh, urgh! What fun! I've had nausea since week 4, and then at 6 weeks, I woke up and started praying to the porcelain gods in earnest!! I put up with days of that then gave Sea-Bands a go- someone else mentioned them too. I really recommend trying them as I am getting through the days much more comfortably. Still have nausea and tend to gag a bit in the mornings (while fixing breakfast for my 2 sons...) but I can keep things down, yay! But keep evil coffee smells away as I still can't stomach it!!

My tummy hates me

I am pregnant with my first and I had no idea I could feel so hungrey and nausea at the same time. Best thing you can do is listen to your body. Before you eat run through a few ideas and go with the meal that sounds best. If can't keep anything down try eating "plain" foods Crackers, plain bread, white rice, maybe a potato. Anything Ginger and sour treats help the most when batteling nausea.

coping w/moring sickness

What helped me the most was having snacks already by my bed by the time I awoke in the morning and throughout the day what I found to help was any type of hot soups or drinks. The warmth in the stomach seemed to help settle things down greatly for me.

Jamba Juice

I am nine-weeks pregnant, and have been sick for at least two straight weeks! A fruit smoothie with protien added like Jamba Juice has really helped me. I never even used to like them, and now they are my best friend.
