Prenatal care should include testing for Group B Strep at the end of your pregnancy. If you test positive or have other risk factors you should be offered IV antibiotics in labor. Did you get tested? Did you know it was happening? Was a diagnosis given? Were you shocked? How was it explained to you? How was the treatment? Share your GBS Experience

wondering about labour options

I am in my 35th week and was informed about GBS when I had a leakage (water trickled) about 30 weeks. I was tested and was positive. Then given augmentin to treat it. However, it came back when I did another swab test last week. So the doctor told me that I'd be on IV with antibiotics during labour.

GBS Carriers always get treated

I had a midwife for my first pregnancy, she informed me of the group B beta strep. I was positive and she told me every pregnancy I ever had to be treated with iv antibiotics during labor. I had the same midwife for my 2nd child. I only encountered a problem with my 3rd child since I wasn't being cared for by the same midwife, instead a different OBGYN med. Dr. She insisted I didn't need. Antibiotics I of course stood my ground and got the antiibiotics. Point of the story if you are a carrier better to be safe then sorry. It can be more serious then they tell you.

Positive test

I went in for my 37 week check-up and had a vaginal swab done but I was never told why. I wasn't informed that I tested positive until I was admitted to the hospital on my scheduled surgery day. No one explained what GBS was, nor was I informed of the risks that came with it. Since my sons birth 8 days ago, I've educated my self by using Google to find out as much as I could about GBS. I wasn't treated because my water didn't break but I wish I had been better informed about what GBS is.

I have gbs

I have never heard of gbs in my life. This is my first pregnancy and I tested positive. They never really explained to me exactly what it was they only told me that when I go into labor I would need to be on antibiotics. I am 34 weeks and am at high risk for premature labor and already dilated 2 cm.

PLEASE GET TESTED

I had all warning signs of GBS: premature labour, temperature, waters broken for about 27 hours. I didn't know this existed. I was admitted to hosp bubs heart rate was strong no one mentioned GBS, antibiotics, anything. An ultrasound after 27 hrs of broken waters showed no heart beat, my baby had died inside of me so I gave birth to a beautiful stillborn baby boy at 34 weeks. GBS has changed my life forever so please takes this seriously, do the test because I'm proof that it can be a big deal...I wouldn't want any one else to go through this, so please be aware as I didn't even no about GBS.

Tested Positive

I tested positive and was told I'd have to have an IV in labor with antibiotics. Since I wanted to go natural, they gave me a different antibiotic that only had to be given every so often (every few hours), so I could still move around. It was no big deal and made me feel better.

Didn't know I was tested!

I was tested but I didn't know what for or why, so I was a bit shocked when my doctor said I didn't have it. I was like - when did I get tested??? Glad I didn't have it but wished I would have known I was tested.
