Readers Respond: Who did you tell first and why?

Sharing the news of your pregnancy is a lot of fun for most people. The question can be who do you tell first? Do you tell your best friend first because she can help you plan a great surprise announcement? Do you share the news with your husband or partner first? What about that phone call to your best friend? One thing I'm seeing online is more and more women sharing with the due date forums first, and then spreading the word of their pregnancy. Confirmation

We've been trying for over a year and every time I took a test it was always negative. Part of me was happy because our first was a hard pregnancy. When I finally got a positive it was so faint that I ran into the living room to my husband and made him double check, "do you see the second line too?" Yep!

Caught mom buying tests so she told me!

I was at the store with my mom buying everything we needed around the house, and she was having her period so she went to that section and said meet me here after your looking at hair stuff, I did and I caught her holding a pregnancy test package and she hid it behind her back and said, ssshhh! It was true last night but I wanna know for sure so I need more! I am 12 years old and a sister to a 15 year old and there will be a baby in the house!?!?!? OMG!

BFF

With my daughter, I told my BFF first because I can call her at work with this kind of thing, but not my husband. He had to wait until he got home. I wish I were more patient, but I thought I'd just burst with the news! With my current pregnancy, I told my husband first because he was still home when I took my test.

My coworker/ bestie (Lestie Adams)

I kept proscratinating about buying a pregnancy test. Lestie was not having it. She was like I have to know for meee lol. So any how she sent her roomate to the store to buy me a test. I went into the bathroom stall to take it and I handed it right back to her. She was making all kinds of funny noises & was pacing back in forth swinging the test under the stall. I was like no wait til I pull my pants back up she said nooo this cant wait and sure enough it was positive. It was the greatest moment. I was content. =-J

My Boyfriend

I was late and feeling really tired. My boyfriend picked up the test and we were going to test the next morning. I couldn't wait I took it. The result was a very faint positive. I didn't believe it. Made him pick me up a digital took it at 4am and well were pregnant. We are excited and nervous. I told my best friend next who is excited for us, then told my mom and sister.

My Sister

After having my first child, I was taking a protection of not getting pregnant .. But decided to stop after my child is one year and half, I kept trying to get pregnant again for 6 months now. Each month I felt that I'm pregnant but when my period comes I was in a very bad mood.in October i missed my period and when I bought a pregnancy test I was worried of the result and I decided not to do the test until the end of month. But in the same night I dreamt that I did the test and my sister read it for me but she couldn't see the result clearly. Once I woke up I did the test with bad feeling. When it showed a very clear two lines I kept crying and shaking and didn't now what to do because at that time me and my husband were in a bad relationship. I just talked to my sister and told her. Then at night I told my husband and he was happy. Also I told my two year old son and he now always come to me to kiss my belly. :-)

Waiting Game

I had a miscarriage 4 years ago....I was not expecting that I can get pregnant again. Happy to say that I am 8 weeks pregnant now....although I really want to announce my pregnancy now.... I am trying to wait until my first prenatal appointment....

My partner

I told my fiance' first. We've been trying for 8 months with no luck. We recently moved to Mississippi from Oregon and I noticed a change in myself right away, fatigue mostly. My fiance' told me it was just myself adjusting to the level of humidity and lower elevation. A few days later I noticed my fatigue was worse and my breasts were tender. I took a test the next morning and was absolutely shocked to finally turn a positive result. I couldn't wait, I told him right after the test. We waited till after the initial doctor visit to tell our families, and now we have the first sonogram images to show everyone too.

My (doubting) Husband

We have a 2-year old son and we've been trying for about 6 months for another one. Every month, I'd think *for sure* I was pregnant but would be so disappointed to get a negative result. Last month, I had that same feeling but even more-so. My husband said to wait until I missed my period, but I just couldn't wait so I took a test 3 days early. It had a VERY faint second line, so I waited another day to test again. He said "don't take it yet, it's probably not positive and you don't want to be disappointed again". Well, I didn't listen! I took it and it had a BRIGHT 2nd line. So I came downstairs with stick in hand and said: "is that proof enough for you?" We hugged and are so excited. We're trying to wait until 10 weeks to tell everyone. It will kill us (ME!) to wait until 12 weeks.

My son.

My son is almost 2 and I told him first because he was the only one home with me when I took the test. I knew he wouldn't understand but it will be a great story for the future. I then waited to tell my husband until he got home from work. My son was napping and I was (obviously) exhausted so I said, "Come lay down with us." He caught on right away and couldn't stop smiling. We are due again in January!

My Best Friend

My partner and I had been totally aware that I had missed my first period. He had always been extremely excited about having a son since he already had a girl. When I peed on the stick that day it was no surprise to me since I had already experienced the sore breasts and fatigue.I decided to call my best friend since she has always been there for me in every way (plus I had promised her she'd be the first). It is my first pregnancy and I feel terrible. I am sick everyday and I have tremendous pain at night. I regret every minute that it happened but I guess I will be grateful at the end when I reap the rewards. My partner is very supportive and I guess that's key. Looking forward to have that little person call me mommy!!!

My husband

My husband and I got married and I found out I was pregnant less than 15 days later. I had a feeling so I took the test. Husband was shocked but recovered and kept saying it was too soon... And that he guesses we won't have trouble filling our 4 bedroom house.

My Husband told me!

My husband had noticed that it had been a while since my last period. We had been trying for a few months, but I didn't want to get too excited. We decided to get a test and right after I peed on the stick my husband grabbed it out of my hand and said playfully, "Nuh-huh, I'm going to be the one to tell YOU that your pregnant." So he had the stick and asked "what is the symbol for being pregnant?". I said "I think it is a plus sign" he let out a disappointment sigh, so I decided to check the instructions. The positive result was actually 2 lines! When I told him that he got this shocked looked on his face and said, "you're joking?!". It was a lot of fun. We basically told EVERYONE, the very next day we were so excited. I think people thought that it was weird that we should share the news that early. I probably would have waited until the first 8 week sonogram had I been thinking. I didn't even know my due date! I was just too excited! :)

My daughter

After having four children already, I decided I would tell my second born my secret before everyone else found out. I took her out to the store and broke the news to her. The shocked and amazed smile I saw come from her face made it all worth it! She felt so important that I would tell her first and very excited to brake the news to everyone else. We had a memorable time trying to find something to buy to creatively tell the rest of the family about our "special secret." I wouldn't trade that day for anything!

My fiance

I told my fiance first. We lost our first child a few months ago. I went into premature labor and he was too little to make it. We decided we would try again but never thought we would get pregnant so fast! I found out and I was so excited I could not keep it in. When I came into the living room smiling up a storm he asked me what we should to today, and I couldn't help but say CELEBRATE!!!! I wanted to keep it a surprise and tell him in a cute, surprising way but I couldn't help it. All and all I wouldn't change who I told first. I was very happy when we shared that perfect moment holding one another in tears. It was beautiful. Our son must really be watching over us.
