4 babies born in 5 years. All breastfed at least 12 months. I'm still nursing my 2.5 year old.

Your Breastfeeding Story

My son is almost 30 months old and still nursing. When he was about 18 months old, he slacked off and some days wouldn't nurse at all - so I thought we were done. But just before his 2nd birthday, he started nursing like a newborn again. (okay, not literally - but he started nursing multiple times a day). He still nurses at least once a day, more if he gets his feelings hurt or needs comfort in some other way.

Last night I asked him, "Do you still get Mommy's milk when you nurse?" He nodded, "Yup." Then he stopped nursing, sat up and said, "No. It's Kool-Aid." Who knew?!

Advice

  • I love extended nursing - and nursing a communicative toddler is a riot!

Robin Elise Weiss, LCCE, Pregnancy & Childbirth Guide, says:

Nursing a toddler is very different from nursing a newborn. It's certainly not the time intensive life of a newborn nursling, but it has rewards and risks of its own, including funny things they say and do. Such a great experience.
