I am 24 weeks pregnant with my second baby, a girl. I have an 11 year old son also.
My Pregnancy Loss
I was pregnant about a year and a half ago and it seemed that everything was fine. No bleeding or anything. When I went to my 12 week appointment there was no heartbeat and I ended up having a D and C the next day. It was beyond devastating. I cant tell you how much it hurt to lose that baby. It is truly devastating.
Deciding to Get Pregnant Again
I was fortunate to get pregnant again. It answered my prayers. It was a wonderful surprise. After miscarrying in my previous pregnancy I have been so overjoyed to be expecting another baby! Its a wonderful blessed miracle. I am a single mother with both of my kids, so it can be an even more sensitive time when you are pregnant again after a loss, but I lean on my girlfriends and family for support and just take joy out of each day.
Advice
- My advice to other moms to be that become pregnant after a miscarriage is: do whatever you need to do in order to feel reassured. I went to my OB clinic for free fetal heart tone checks every single week from 11 weeks until I felt my daughter kicking regularly starting at about 18 1/2 weeks. Their is nothing as reassuring as hearing the heartbeat for peace of mind. Do what works for you. If you have questions, call your OB or those OB triage RNs at the clinic-that is what they are there for! Its a very sensitive time to be pregnant after a loss so do what you need to do in order to feel good & enjoy baby!
