My Current Pregnancy
We are 16 weeks pregnant. This is our fourth pregnancy, hopefully our first baby.
Anything Else
Thankfully we have heard the heart beat and baby looks great. Our Quad Screen was also fine.
My Pregnancy Loss
We have had three pregnancy losses. Our first baby was a chemical pregnancy. I took a really early pregnancy test, a few days before my period was due. (I actually took several.) They were all positive! We were so excited, but two days after my period was due it came. The next day the pregnancy tests were negative. I thought it was a false positive, but my doctor said it was probably just a really early loss. We were sad but not too concerned.
The next pregnancy we had an ectopic pregnancy. It was early and I took methotrexate. The 3rd pregnancy was also tubal and I had surgery and lost the tube and baby.
Deciding to Get Pregnant Again
We were told to wait about six months before trying just because of the methotrexate and the surgery and all the emotional stuff. That was so hard. We decided to use condoms because we didn't want to use chemical birth control. Every time we had sex and used a condom it was sad for us. But it gave us a chance to talk about it.
Finally the six months was up. It was odd that at that point we felt tentative. We decided to just stop birth control and not "work" at getting pregnant. It took us another six months to get pregnant but when we did we really felt calm and ready.
Advice
- Listen to your body. If you have pain call your doctor.
- Take your time, don't rush into a new pregnancy.
- When you are pregnant, call right away. Sometimes you need special tests, though most of the time you don't.
- Don't give up hope!
