What I Did:
We waited for quite awhile to share the news with our family, long enough so that we already knew that we were having a boy. So we had them over for dinner. I served up a gorgeous cake. It was a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. When we cut into the cake, the center layer of icing was bright blue.
How people reacted
It took everyone a few minutes to figure it out and then the room erupted with cheers! Then the questions started flying but it was a great celebration! Why didn't we tell sooner? (Previous pregnancy loss.) When were we due? Did anyone know? How was I feeling? It was fun.
Advice
- Be prepared for the tears of joy
- Consider not springing the news on your kids in public
- Use a three layer cake for pink and blue icing or cupcakes
