Septate Uterus

By , About.com Guide

Definition: A piece of tissue in the top of the uterus in the middle. This happens when a woman is herself a fetus, and it is something she is born with. You can't tell from the outside of the uterus that this is a septate uterus. Though ultrasound can pick up some of the defects. The piece of tissue can be thick or thin.

This is the most common uterine anomaly. It can be the cause of miscarriage, particularly repeated miscarriage. The risk of miscarriage comes from the risk of poor vascularization of that area.
