TV Shows About Pregnancy

By , About.com Guide

It almost seems like every cable station has their very own take on the TV shows about pregnancy and birth.  You've got the sensational ones that focus on weird parts of pregnancy and ones that show birth after to birth in rapid succession. Whether you watch one or all of them, they do permeate the television schedules.  Here's a listing of the current TV shows about pregnancy and birth!

I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant

Discovery Health produces I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant. It is designed to dramatize the actual surprise births surrounding the stories they are telling. They advertise that they are looking for stories of people who found out they were pregnant when they gave birth or just a few weeks before. Others who watch either love the show or hate it - but can't seem to get enough of the drama. Many say that they watch it to laugh with friends, not understanding how you could not know you were pregnant.

One Born Every Minute is filmed in Columbus, OH.  They show a couple of births in every episode, heavy on the editing.  It airs on Lifetime.  You can see the wide variety of births depicted, but also know that sometimes the editing changes the way things really happen.

16 and Pregnant

MTV airs this show, focused on teen pregnancy.  They follow a few teens through the season, showing how they are preparing for their baby, the ups and downs and the drama.  There is always plenty of baby daddy drama going on as well as postpartum crying.  While the show doesn't set out to glamorize teen pregnancy, many worry that it does just that.

Baby Story

Baby Story is a production of TLC and is the show that started the baby TV craze.  They advertise that they will take you through the final weeks of pregnancy, to the labor and birth and through the first weeks with baby.  It's really hard to fit all of that in a show of this length.  In fact, I've known more than one person who was actually on the show, and they all feel like the show contributed to them having issues with their birth.  Clearly labeled as voyeristic from TLC - what's your take?

This show continues while their hospital based show, Maternity Ward, no longer airs.

I'm Pregnant and...

This is the newest pregnancy show from TLC that focuses on pregnancy with a confounding problem.  Recent episodes have toalked about pregnancy and addiction, pregnancy and bipolar, pregnancy and homelessness.
