The Bottom Line

Beyond Ava and Aiden is a highly addictive and fun read. It is a great source for anyone trying to choose a name for a baby who is looking to get away from stodgy, lengthy lists of names, meanings, origins and lots of details. This spunky book of lists and characteristics is sure to find a place in your baby naming bookshelf.

Guide Review - Beyond Ava and Aiden - Baby Name Book Review

I'll be the first to admit that I got sucked into the whole baby names thing, and it's beyond simply having to name eight children of my own. I find it interesting the hows and whys of baby names that people give to their children. That means that I've read a lot of baby name books. The vast majority of baby name books are exhaustive books filled with lengthy descriptions of each name, the origin, the meaning and more. While these certainly have a place in baby naming, books like Beyond Ava and Aiden really bring the baby names to the forefront and let you quickly, easily and happily sift through names and current thoughts about those names.

Rosenkrantz and Satran do a really great job of breaking down the baby names in various lists based on how the public currently feels about a name. They really are up to the minute, not only in being able to list the baby names that celebrities choose, but in keeping their finger on the pulse of the baby naming trends. One example that I could give is the rise of Lilah. A few years ago this name was barely heard of and now it's quite popular. They called it. The same with Ada. Another rising star, it's a hip new version of the now nearly overused Ava.

There certainly are a bevy of names and naming styles to choose from in Beyond Ava and Aiden. Here is a sampling of the less common names found:

Girls

  • Marin
  • Pilar
  • Anya
  • Zinnia
  • Yael

Boys

  • August
  • Dax
  • Judah
  • Truman
  • Hermes

There are plenty of popular names as well for those who don't want to stray far from the pack. But this baby naming book is sure to put a little zing in your baby's name.
