Things to Have at Home for the Postpartum Period

By

The postpartum period is not a time to be running out to the store to pick something up, so plan ahead with some personal care items for yourself that can help ease you into the postpartum period. Some of these are for your comfort and will be used short term, others will carry you through the first year or until you have your first period after baby.

This topical anesthetic works wonders on sore bottoms and hemorrhoids. You can spray this directly onto your clean skin and receive new instant relief. You may be given some in the hospital, but if not - this works wonders.

This old stand by is great for easing any discomfort in your rectal or vaginal area. These pads are designed for use with hemorrhoids, but also work well with vaginal swelling. You can actually line your menstrual pad with these for the first few days after giving birth to ease swelling. They also cool nicely in the fridge. The pads are easier on sore bottoms than creams.

This is the actual piece of plastic to recreate the hospital type sitz bath using flowing warm water. It fits over your toilet and you fill the bag with warm water and allow it to drain over your bottom for cleansing and comfort. You can use this with products meant to heal like sitz bath additions.
