Questions to Ask Your Caregiver Regarding Childbirth of Twins

  1. Will we automatically be induced at 38 weeks? Do we have the option of going later if babies and mom are doing well?

  2. If we have a spontaneous onset of labor, how will the babies be monitored during labor?

  3. What monitoring is recommended if the labor is induced?

  4. Are there any routine procedures during the labor, such as IV's, that are advised?

  5. Will we have the option of positioning out of the bed during labor ?

  6. Is epidural anesthesia advised during labor or is an unmedicated labor an option for us?

  7. Where will the birth of the twins take place? If the OR is recommended, will we be able to do some pushing of the first baby in the birthing or labor room?

  8. Will we have the option of non-stirrups positioning for birth (such as side-lying or all fours) unless there is a complication?

  9. Will our support team be able to be present during the birth? Is there a limit on the number of people we can have in the OR or birthing room?

  10. Is there a time limit between the birth of the first and second twin? If so, how long are you comfortable waiting?

  11. Can mom hold and/or nurse the first twin prior to the birth of the second twin?

  12. Can we videotape and/or take pictures of the birth?

  13. Can we have siblings present?
