Your Six Week Check Up - Postpartum Doctor's Visit

This marks the official end of your typical prenatal/postpartum care with your practitioner. Unless you've had surgery you've probably not seen your doctor or midwife since 24-48 hours after the birth. Be sure to bring all of your questions with you about the birth, future pregnancies, birth control, health etc.

Birth control is also an important topic to discuss. It is possible to get pregnant. There are many methods of reliable birth control (hormonal and otherwise) for the new mother (including breast feeding moms). Don't hesitate to ask.

In addition to discussing birth control and the birth, you will probably have your annual exam, including a breast exam and pap smear. This means that you will not have to see your practitioner for a year unless you have questions.

When will it be normal?

One of the most common topics couples want to discuss about the postpartum period is when will life return to normal?

My best advice is that it will take you about 9 months to a year to redefine normal. Slowly but surely your relationship will grow and your new baby will be incorporated into your family.

Good byes!

I hope you've enjoyed class, even online. Please be sure to stop by and let us know what you liked, and what you didn't like and all about your birth and share your birth story!
