The Bottom Line
10/25/07:Item Recall Info

This is a frivolous item to buy for baby and I'm not so sure I'm comfortable with having baby sit up before he is ready to do so on his own.

Guide Review - Bumbo Baby Seat
When I saw the Bumbo Baby Seat I did a double take. I couldn't believe that someone was actually marketing this item. I found a friend who had one, thinking, surely I was missing something. Nope, it is simply a plastic chair designed to hold your baby in an upright position. That sounded harmless enough, if not a bit strange to me.

Then I talked to someone who is an orthopedic surgeon about the Bumbo Baby Seat. His take was that if your baby couldn't sit up on their own that there had to be a reason. His concern was that we were all in a big rush and potentially it might not be the best for baby. My chiropractor friends agreed with him.

Parents are divided. Some didn't mind spending the money, even if it wasn't going to be used for very long, though the box says it's good for up to 14 months (or 22 pounds). You can start using it around four months. Though I'd think the bigger issue would be how well your baby can hold up his or her head.
