This is a compact pregnancy pillow designed to support your growing belly as well as your back. The pillow has two fabrics, one is solid and the other is a pattern. This pillow has two sides, one with a higher density foam to support your back and a memory foam for your belly. The solid side goes towards your belly and the other towards your back. It comes in three sizes: Small: under 160 lbs and 40" or under, Medium: 160-210 lbs and 40-50" in circumference, Large: 210-260 lbs and 50-60" (measured at the largest part of your belly).
How It Works
The cube is buttoned together with a fabric loop and small button. To open it, you simply undo the button. The loop wound up poking me a bit, so I opted to cut it off. Between the two halves is a piece of t-shirt like material that holds them together. When I looked at the space, I wondered if my belly would fit, but it fit perfectly well. I did notice that the fabric already had small gaps where it met the cube. This worried me about the strength of the material but it did not break even after over a week of hard use.
The two halves fold up to be a compact square. This is great because it doesn't have the bulk that your standard pregnancy pillow has and yet does provide support for your growing belly and your back. At first the back portion felt too hard, but after laying on it for a minute or two, it was the perfect thickness.
This was comfortable, but as supportive as I needed. I found it hard to roll over with this in the middle of the night. You know how sometimes your bones are just squishy and you can't sleep on that side anymore? I would have to wake up enough to flip it, which for me, was enough to wake me up. Though it does not hold you in place, it does prevent you from sleeping on your back, if that worries you. It also didn't provide support between my knees.
The belly support was superior because it kept my belly lifted in just the right places. The memory foam was comfortable and melted into my curves.
Care
The cover is removable on the cube. This means that it can be machine washed and laid flat to dry. This prevents shrinking and making it not fit back over the cover. When I tried this it worked well and dried quickly enough that you can wash it in the morning and use it that night.
You cannot wash the foam. Though it can be spot cleaned. I can't imagine how it would get dirty. I suppose you could spill something on it, but it's not in an area where your water would break on it or anything.
The Bottom Line
The bottom line is that if you're looking for a nice, neat pregnancy pillow that supports your belly only, this one will do the trick. I do not recommend it for you if you're looking for something to provide you with support between your knees (lifting one up), unless you can get away with using a regular pillow and the Utterly Yours. It may also be something you want to avoid if you flip from side to side a lot and area easily awakened or have trouble falling back to sleep.
That said, it was very comfortable on my belly, delightfully supportive of my back. It held up well to use and to washing. My husband loved that it didn't crowd the bed.
