Baby Lutz/Bell's Birth

I have had four children. They are 14, 12, 3, and 20 months. By far the toughest birth was the first child. I was only 21 and had not taken a prenatal course. Terrified, young and unprepared. 17 hours of hard labor and insomnia the days before. Demerol, morphine and a blue baby with red hair plunked on my belly! I thought I had given birth to papa smurf.

After a divorce, I decided to have another family with my 2nd husband. The fourth baby was a surprise and turned out to be the most incredible birth experience out of all four.

Labor began at 9:00am, but I had had false labor with the 3rd so decided that is what I was having. By 4:30pm, my husband insisted I call our Doctor. She was furious that I was still at home as having had 3 before she anticipated a quick delivery. I was 8 cm by the time I sped over to the hospital 5 mins. away from home. I was in a dress, my hair was done, my makeup on and my doctor couldn't believe I was having a baby. I was cracking jokes, my husband had his arms crossed leaning against the cupboard, relaxed as hell. The nurse, doctor and my husband would lean over and take a look in between my legs every contraction. I didn't feel that urge to push at all and yet I delivered my 3rd at 7 cm! My doctor poked her hand inside and pushed a piece of my cervix off the baby's head and 2 pushes later, my 4th child, a girl, was born. Nothing to it. No pain, no drugs, lots of laughter and giddiness and shock that I had just given birth virtually pain free. Unbelievable. My doctor said it was the most unique birthing she had witnessed.I was pushed into the operating theatre and by 1.30pm, Gabrielle was born. She's the most beautiful baby girl I've ever seen and frankly now, I really don't mind if I'll never have a son!!
