Jessica's Story
C-Section
After missing two periods and having my husband Scott tell me hundreds of times, you had better go get a pregnancy test, I did and what do you know I was pregnant. My first reaction was pure amazement because I had been on the pill for over a year and did not miss. Also I had laproscopy done previosly and was told that my tubes were tapered and that I would have a hard time getting pregnant!!
A few more weeks into my pregnancy (around 13-14 weeks), I began bleeding. We were so scared. I remember thinking, "Lord you gave me this wonderful blessing, please don't let it be taken away." An ultrasound showed that my placenta was over my cervix. I was told to have bedrest except to go to the bathroom. I thought well, I can handle this. If that is all I have to do to keep this baby then what a breeze. I did as I was told, but ate entirely too much junk while lying in that bed. I gained a lot of weight.
At around 32 weeks I had another ultrasound which showed that my placenta had migrated and was told I could get out of that bed and enjoy the rest of my pregnancy. Well I did just that. Next thing I know I am having dizzy spells and began having blackouts. My doctor then told me that my bloodpressure was dangerously high and that I needed to be back in bed.
I again complied. I had just gotten past the 36 week point when I went to brush my teeth and get ready for bed. Next thing I remember was telling my husband to come help me up off the bathroom loor that I needed to go to the hospital. We called my doctor and told him that I had passed out. He said to go on to get hooked up to the monitor and he would meet us up there. This was on May 23.
They gave me Tylenol III to help with my headache and to help me sleep and kept me for observation. The next morning my bloodpressure was still high. My doctor decided to try to induce labor. I was given pitocin for around three hours and never had a contraction. So around 5:30 he decided that I would have a C-Section.
I was just relieved that the headaches would be over. When I got into the delivery room, my bloodpressure jumped again and I was given magsulfate to bring it down. At 7:22 P.M. My beautiful Jessica Elisabeth was born 4 weeks early, but was doing great! Her bilirubin was high and she had to be treated for that, but we both got to go home three days later.
She is worth all the pain, weight gain and worry that we went through. I thank God every day that she is healthy and that we had such a competant caring doctor, who talked us through every complication that occured.
I am now expecting our second baby who is due to arrive by C-Section (my choice) on August 6. We have had almost an uneventful pregnancy this time around. We will keep you posted on the arrival of this little one.
