Ricky's Birth

By Robin Elise Weiss, LCCE, About.com

I went in to the doctors to have my check up at 2pm and was almost dilated to 4 so the doctor ordered me to get admited to the hospital immediatly with some light contractions to boot that were about 10 minutes apart. When I was admited an hour later they came in to break my water then my mom who was one of my coaches noticed that the fluid that was expeled was miconium stained.

By the time 6pm rolled around I was in a lot of pain the doctor came in and applied an epidural of which with in minutes droped my blood Pressure so low 40/0 that every one in the room was quite concerned. It took a couple of hours to finally reach safe levels again. My family really thought they were going to loose me there and had me swear that any more children would have to be epidural free. I promised.

11:30 the doctor comes in i am at 9cm and wants me to start pushing with in 15 mins i was at ten cm. I pushed for over an hour with out much accomplishment so by 12:35 he decided to use the vac on lil ricky. I was to exhausted to push any longer and vagley recall looking at my mom and asking her to finnish for me she looked at me and laughed a lil and said honey i cant' exactally do that the baby is in you it's up to you. The vac helped get ricky's head out but then took it off and have me give one more push the best i could and Ricky was born at 12:50 am Janurary 3, 1997.. NO MORE EPIDURALS FOR ME.......

Ricky was put on the warming table taken to the nursery and had asperated miconium fluid into his lungs they then fed him he asperated that then noticed he had a heart murmer. Did some tests the following day to notice that he had a ventricular Ceprtal Defect. (small hole in the lower lobe of his heart) He is doing fine today and the hole is closing up lil by lil. thank God.....We've been doing a lot of praying for him and We really Have To Thank God that lil Ricky Is still with us. The end...
