Home Birth

By Robin Elise Weiss, LCCE, About.com

We had our baby-#5 at home, and it was a wonderful experience! My midwife arrived at about 4 p.m. and my contractions were about 5 minutes apart. I handled the pain well until about 6 p.m. and then I got into a hot bath. I stayed there until about 9:30 p.m. and I was 9 cm. dialated. We decided to break the water because I had been in transition for about 2 1/2 hours. After the water was broken the pain was much worse, but at 10:33 p.m. our son was born and he was 9 lbs. 2 oz. and I had no tearing thanks to the midwife. This was my largest baby. What a great thing to climb into my own bed with my husband when it was all over.
