ALACE is a non-profit, international organization dedicated to supporting woman-centered childbirth. We do this by providing training, certification, and support for Childbirth Educators and Labor Assistants who provide prenatal education and physical and emotional support for pregnant women and their families.

The Labor Assistant Training Workshop is a three day intensive training - including a strong emphasis on experiential learning. With the workshop fee you will receive:

  • ALACE program manual
  • ceritification and referrals
  • one-year active membership to ALACE
  • personal attention, networking, and support

    Labor Assistant Certification consists of:

    • attendance at the ALACE three-day training workshop
    • completion of the required reading list
    • adult-infant CPR certification
    • successful completion of the written exam
    • audit a series of childbirth education classes
    • written evaluations of 6 births you have attended
    • written performance evations from 3 people you have provided labor support for or worked with (ie: mothers, midwives, M.D.s, nurses, etc.)

    The Childbirth Education Certification Program is a modular course of study. Trainees are provided with close contact and support from our Director of Teacher Training. The materials include an extenive teacher's learning manual and videos that can be used in classes. Full certification requires:

    • successful completion of all learning modules
    • 85% or higher on the final exam
    • completion of the required reading list
    • positive teaching evaluations from 6 couples

    ALACE also offers a supplemental workshop for Childbirth Educators: Empowering Women in the Childbearing Year - a dynamic one and a half day workshop which emphasizes the transformative power of childbirth, and gives teachers the tools to positively affect their student's experiences.
