The Essential Pregnancy Kit

By Robin Elise Weiss, LCCE, About.com

Maternity Clothes

  • Clothes that actually fit comfortably during the in-between stages of... "I'm too fat for my pre preggo clothes" but not yet showing enough to get away with wearing "maternity clothes."

  • Also expandable wedding rings for those pudgy swollen fingers!

  • A belly sling to ease some of the pressure and a baby sling to keep our little ones close to our hearts at all times...

  • A magical bra to make breasts less achy.

  • Maternity clothes without the stupid teddy bears and other cutesy animals on the front.

  • Comfortable shoes!

Work & House Work

  • Nine months off paid time off!

  • Leave work free passes....about 100 of them...so when the sleepies hit at 1:30pm you're out of there!

  • A wife to pick up where you left off (except with hubby of course!).

  • A maid (at least once a week)!

  • A pint-sized helper to pick up things you can't bend over and pick up yourself.

Being Pampered

  • Free pedicures and foot massages at the salon of your choice.

  • Moisturizing creams and body oils to keep on pampering oneself (and also because skin gets dry).

  • A massage a week, because your husband's hands will get tired and he deserves a day off, too.

  • Ahh.. my lazy boy, for when nothing else is comfortable.

  • A nose plug to avoid smells that make you sick.

  • Cocoa butter for massaging my itchy skin and to make me think I'm avoiding stretch marks.

  • A magical ointment to make stretch marks disappear.

Sleep and Comfort

  • A great big body pillow to snuggle with on those uncomfortable nights.

  • An extra two hours of sleep a night!

  • A nap time mat, so you can crawl under your desk and nap when ever you are tired.

Food Cravings

  • Discounts on all craving foods!

  • I would include a driver who would happily go out and get you all of those middle of the night cravings no matter how far away they are. And would never ever tell you when you want pizza at 3 am to go eat fruit loops and pretend.

  • Tums or chewable papaya tabs or Gaviscon or something like that.

  • Oh and one of those super sized ice cream bowls that rests perfectly on the belly!

  • An unlimited stash of Girl Scout Cookies!
