Diary of a Doula

Eve brings over photos that she took at the birth. I didn't realize that anyone had remembered our desire for photos because it had all happened so quickly. This is a very pleasant surprise and I break down crying that someone could remember something that seemed so small and yet was so important to me.

November 29th
My breasts are still sore and Isaac's penis is infected from the circumcision. Eve listens to me and calms me down. She offers me some great suggestions that I simply can't remember because this time I am the new mommy. She makes me feel really good and reminds me how strong I am.

Almost midnight

Now we are five. Last year we sat here as a family of four, never knowing if we'd be blessed with a new baby or not. Isaac is sweet and sleeping in our laps.

This has been an amazing year on all fronts. We've had our dream baby. I've been able to help 37 babies into the world. I helped more than 75 mommies learn to breastfeed. And I taught hundreds of families about the loving work of a doula.

I really love my "job."
