Videos on Pregnancy

By

Once the pregnancy test is confirmed women and their partners are eager for information. While many pregnant couples are turning towards books, there are also a host of videos available about pregnancy and birth. However, these videos should not be considered to take the place of regular childbirth classes. Here are some of the current choices:

Birthing the Future by Suzanne Arms

This video is about 35 minutes long, and done by Suzanne Arms. It contains still photos and actual birth scenes, while discussing many topics of interest to childbearing families. Obstetricians and midwives explore birth options, including home birth. The price for the general public is $39.95.

Comfort Measures for Childbirth by Penny Simkin

Childbirth educator and doula, Penny Simkin, teaches a variety of childbirth comfort measures, including how to deal with back pain in labor and effective pushing techniques. This is a childbirth class favorite. You will experience a classroom setting and see several births as well. The tape is divided easily into four segments. This is a great tape to help you practice what you've learned in childbirth classes.

Gentle Birth Choices

This tape has 45 minutes of glorious birth footage, including five full births. Interspersed with the births are cameos by birth professionals discussing birthing options like water birth, fetal monitoring, birth centers, circumcision and much more. The music is also very beautiful.

Special Delivery by Rahima Baldwin

Three couples highlight this video following them prenatally, through their births and into the postpartum. There are also other couples who discuss various choices that they made and why they made them. This tape really emphasizes that there are a variety of options for everyone and that there is no one right way to give birth.
