We found out on Fathers Day of 1998 that we were going to have our
second baby. It was such a relief to finally tests positive. We had
been trying for a year to get pregnant and I was starting to think that
there was something wrong cause it only took us 2 weeks to get pregnant
with our first child. Anyway, this pregnancy was really uneventful
other than the fact that I knew I was going to have a big baby and they
thought they were going to induce me early. They set my EDD for Feb.
9th. Everything was going smooth but mom was ready to get this baby
out. The doc decided that they were not going to induce. Mom got out
and walked and walked and walked!! This baby was so stubborn. I didn't
think he was ever going to come out. On Feb 8th I went in for my weekly
appointment and they finally decided to set an induction date.....Feb
18th. Well, the baby decided to finally vacate the "building" on Feb
15th. My 3yr old woke me up at 2:30am for a drink of water. I got up
and got her a drink and I had my first contraction of this entire
pregnancy!! I got in the shower and then went into the living room to
time the contractions.....they were 3 minutes apart and regular. Woke
up my husband and told him it was time to go. We dropped our daughter
off at the neighbors house and headed to the hospital. Hubby thought we
had plenty of time before this baby was going to come so he stopped for
the red lights!! We finally made it to the hospital and the hubby
pulled up to where the ambulances pull in(we had never been to this
hospital and had no clue where we were suppose to go). We got to the
hospital at 3am. We went to check in and the the lady called my doctor
and told him to hurry and get to the hospital. I kept screaming and was
really uncomfortable. The lady kept saying "honey, this is a hospital,
there are people trying to sleep, you need to quiet down." I couldn't
help it...I was in so much pain!! Finally they sat me in a wheel
chair. Whoosh.....there went my water. I told them that I felt like I
needed to push. The lady pushing said there was no way that I needed to
push yet. They took me into the room to check me and as soon as they
stood me up to take off my pants, the babies head was coming out. The
nurse hurried and got me on the table and told me not to push cause his
shoulders were stuck and if I pushed I would break his shoulder. I told
her I wasn't doing anything....it was all happening on its own. They
got his shoulder unstuck and I pushed one time and he was out. My
little boy was born at 3:08am weighing 10lbs 12oz and 21 1/2inches
long. I had a small tear but I didn't feel it. About 5 minutes after
Keith was born, my doctor walked in and asked if we were ready to have
this baby. We told him that he was too late. My total labor from my
first contraction til my baby boy was out was 38 minutes. They say that
labors get quicker but I never thought it would go this fast. I am
still in shock that I had a huge baby with absolutely no drugs and so
fast. Goes to show that anything is possible. Thanks for reading my
story.
