Shower Decoration Ideas
Two cute decorations:
- put voitives in baby food jars, cute candles!!
- make binkys out of 2 wintergreen lifesavers and a jelly belly, pink for girl, etc., place them around the house and let guests take them when they leave. Don't eat them, you have to hot glue them together!
- I was reading the decoration about wintergreen lifesavers and a jelly belly, and it says not to eat it , because you have to hot glue them together. I went to a shower once, where they made those with the wintergreen lifesavers, jelly belly's, and they stuck them together with vanilla cake frosting, which worked well, and then you can eat them! There were little candy dishes of them on each table! Very cute and fun!!
- If you are having the shower after the baby's born, write each letter of the baby's name on a diaper, and hang them on a clothesline. Use permament markers for disposables!
- If you're a crocheter, make baby booties, and fill with jelly beans. :) Great take home idea for the guests
- Here is cute idea that we did for a friend. She really wanted one of those baby tubs that looked like a whale so we bought it and then used it as the punch bowl. We used a clear punch and then put a little rubber ducky in it to float around. Then she took it home with her as a present from the hostesses.
- Here is a cute idea using a tub too. For my sister-in-law I filled a tub with several individually wrapped items (diapers, lotions, washcloths, ect...) then I semi filled some baby blue balloons making them look like bubbles in the tub and placed a little rubber ducky on top with some ribbons. Everyone thought it was adorable! And it was a lot of things the mom needed.
- Here is another center piece idea. If the mom-to-be has a theme for the baby's room you can purchase a lamp that goes with it (ex: Winnie the pooh) take it out of the box and make it your center piece. We did a "Pooh" themed party for a friend and used the lamp as a center piece then the mom can take it home with her as a gift from the hostess. We also made "Honey Pots" for favors.
A couple of ideas:
- You can find confetti that says "It's a boy" or "It's a girl" in party stores and put it on the tables as decoration. If you don't know the sex of the baby, use both!
- You can make chocolate lollipops in the shape of umbrellas and hand these out as favors.
- Take the crib/stroller for the baby and use it to display the gifts, both before and after unwrapping.
-
Make a pin for the mom to be so she can be distinquished between the party, as the party girl.
One idea is to hang a clothesline across the room and pin baby clothing using little clothes pins. We used this idea for my sister-in-law's baby shower and we received so many compliments. It's cute to see the display of little baby booties, socks, hats etc.
Another alternative to the idea mentioned before (writing the baby's name on disposable diapers), if the baby isn't born yet, you can still use this idea by writing the letters "BABY SHOWER". I think this would also look cute.
For baby showers I used some white tule that I picked up on clearance, ran white twinkle lights from Christmas through it, bunched it up every four to five feet (like a swag valance is hung) and hung it around the room tied with the obvious color bow for the gender of the baby. It makes beautiful difused lighting and under the bows can be hung small little baby things; booties, hairbrush, etc..
- Using pacifiers as napkin rings.
- Using cloth diapers as placemats.
Both ideas can be taken home by mom to stock her up. Even is she will use disposable diapers, everyone uses cloth ones for burp cloths.
I was tired of traditional little candy wrapped in tulle favors, so I made homemade cinnamon buns (you could use the Pillsbury ones in the dairy case), wrapped them in colored Saran Wrap and made a little tag using my computer, on pink index stock, that said "Thank You from Laurie's little Bun in the Oven"...they were adorable and got MANY compliments. Everyone remembered the shower fondly when they enjoyed their bun the next morning.
I once hosted a baby shower and I needed an inexpensive way to add centerpieces to the tables. It was a large shower with 80 guests, so there were lots of tables. I decided to make tiny topiaries, about a foot tall. I bought little terra-cotta pots, painted them each in pastel colors, and stenciled baby motifs on them. I put painted wooden dowels in each of them and attached little bunches of baby roses to the top of the dowel. Some topiaries where pink, some were white. I added little bows of ribbon and bows made out of tule to the top. I put moss in the terra-cotta pot to cover the styrofoam that held the wooden rod in place and added some more tewel under the rose bunch for a little extra fluff. I made 10 of these and they really added a cute "elegant" touch to the shower.
This is not really a decoration, but addition to the baby theme. At many of the baby showers I have done, we use inexpensive baby bottles as our drinking glasses. Slightly clip the top of the nipple enough to slide a flexible straw through and fill with punch, etc. One bottle was marked on the bottom and that person won a small prize. It has brought many laughs. Arlis100@aol.com
We would decorate an umbrella in the open position, with blue and pink streamers and hang some so that it hangs over the sides and you hang it from the ceiling near the gift table or chair where the "mom (and dad) to be" will be sitting. You can decorate a rocking chair with streamers, bows, etc. also.

At a shower a few months ago my friend's mom used baby keys as the napkin holders. It was really cute and I thought a good idea. Thanks for listening.
