Strollers are very popular items to give as gifts, particularly for baby showers. These handy machines are super for transporting baby through the park, mall or just on a pleasant walk down the street. However, there are so many types of strollers out there that you may be confused about what you need to buy for yourself or as a gift.

Type of Stroller

Strollers come in a couple of varieties: regular, umbrella, jogging, double, and part of a travel system. Each has it's own advantage and use, some can be used multiple ways. This is the most important stroller decision. Ask yourself:

  • Will you be traveling a lot and want a system that goes together?
  • Do you need to grab your stroller and roll quickly?
  • Will you use it to exercise?
  • How many kids will it need to fit?

Basket Capacity

The basket is the section under the stroller that will hold your diaper bag and other stuff. A larger basket capacity may be great if you intend to use it while shopping, or have multiple children. For others basket capacity only needs to be enough to hold their keys.

Weight

You might not think that you need to worry about the weight of something with wheels, but when you fold it and store it or have to drag it through an airport folded, you will be concerned if these are things you need your stroller to do. This isn't so much of a concern for those who don't ever fold their stroller.

Maneuverability

How does the stroller corner? Can you steer it with one hand? Does it ride well? These are all things to check out on a stroller, or ask other owners.

Folding/Storing Capability

This means how easily does the stroller fold down and how small does it get. This is useful when transporting your stroller to and from places like the mall, park or airport, or even for a quick trip to grandma's house. For those who store the stroller in the closet or trunk this is also important to be sure it doesn't take up too much space. This is becoming the item to watch as there are many more strollers that offer one handed folding.
