Pregnancy is a special time, but as they say, timing is everything. And sometimes, it's just not the right time to tell everyone you're pregnant. Perhaps you're waiting for some test results before you share your big news, or you've had a previous miscarriage and just want to wait. Some people just prefer to keep the secret between themselves for awhile. There are many reasons that people choose to delay announcing their pregnancy.

The problem is that sometimes, the pregnancy is trying to announce itself. This can be from pregnancy symptoms like morning sickness to your new, healthy habits. Here's help in keeping your pregnancy secret until you're ready to share your good news...

I had to laugh when I saw this post – as I haven’t had any trouble hiding my pregnancy. In fact, just the opposite – I’ve WANTED to look pregnant and don’t to most strangers.

My keys:
1. be tall
2. wear baggy clothes all the time pre-pregnancy
3. have just lost like 30 pounds
4. have a baby that would rather live in your lungs and diaphragm than “out in front”
5. get pregnant right when “pregnancy shirts” are in style again (you know, gathered right below the bust and then flaring out over the stomach)

Those details have conspired to make me 6 months pregnant and have people not believe me that I’m pregnant at all, let alone in my 3rd trimester!

And when you’ve got these hormones coursing through you and someone says “wow! you don’t even look pregnant” what I hear is “Wow! you really look fat!” :-)

Honestly, of all the above reasons, I think the #1 contributor is the clothes I regularly wear. Since I prefer large baggy sweatshirts over jeans, the fact that my baggy sweatshirt is not as baggy now is not obvious at all. And since they cover the pregnancy jeans, I don’t look like I’ve changed my style at all.

It became a lot less important to me when baby started kicking me all the time. It was like he was saying “who cares that they can’t see me, I’m here!” Ooops, now I’m crying again. :-)

With my first pregnancy, we wanted to wait until close to 12 weeks to tell friends. Well, my morning sickness hit hard and heavy at 9 1/2 weeks. I would get nauseous in the middle of church because of the crockpots cooking in the kitchen, and two different women correctly guessed I was pregnant because of the color of my face as I tried to discreetly flee in the middle of church! We ended up telling people a few weeks earlier, partly to ease the difficulty of me trying not to act sick!

Thank you for your comments! I am also tall and I just found out that I am pregnant. I want to hide it as long as possible because last year I had a miscarriage and I just want to take my time this time to tell people. I think as women, it is our right to decide when to tell that we are pregnant.
