Does your hospital have wi-fi?

Using a computer when you're in labor may or may not be on your list of things you'd like to try, but having wi-fi available after you have a baby may be a real benefit. Where I live most of the hospitals now have free wi-fi for patients and guests. I started thinking about this today as a friend, far away, was able to post pictures of her super young baby from her postpartum bed at her hospital.

Free wi-fi was also great for me as a doula when I attended a birth last week. The labor was induced and was slow to start but the family wanted me there for when things did pick up. They told me to bring my computer and hang out quietly while we waited for labor. I was able to get some work done, hang out on facebook and even call out for a birth ball when I realized that the couple could use one but had forgotten theirs at home. (A big shout out to my doula friends who actually found a ball and brought it to me!)

Does your hospital have wi-fi? What would you use wi-fi for during your labor or postpartum?

Yes, both hospitals I’ve delivered at had free wifi. This last time it was even more beneficial since we now live far from family and friends. We “checked in” on facebook to let people know the birth was happening, we posted updates and posted pictures soon after. Also when I was sitting in my post partum room and my hubby and baby were in the nursery getting her first bath I did some work on my iPhone using the wifi. Horrible I know =)
