When I was pregnant with my first baby, we somehow just fell into calling her Baby Big Bird. I have no idea how it happened. One day she's didn't have a name and the next, everyone called her by this fetal nick name. We didn't know that we were having a girl, saving it for a delivery room surprise, but we called her this adorable nick name. It worked for us, even though we didn't plan to do it.
Many families share very similar stories about choosing a nick name for their baby before birth. So whether you do it on purpose or not, these nick names can be a way to prevent you from calling your baby "It." Did you have a fetal nick name? Care to share what it was?

During my last pregnancy I was laying on the bed with my then youngest. I asked him if he remembered what was in mommy’s tummy and he said “It’s a bug! and I am gonna get it!” From that point on we referred to the baby as Bug, and a version of that is still his nickname today.
I don’t know how it came about, but we called ours “bean” throughout the majority of the pregnancy.
We called ours “puppet”.
We called ours “The Passenger.”
With a last name like Snow my best friend nicknamed our first Snowflake…our youngest didn’t really have a nickname we just said the baby.
We call ours Festus….we’ve had friends who referred to theirs as squirtle and squishy.
We named ours Kakuna. When I had my first ultrasound the baby looked like a cocoon so my husband thought of the Pokemon with the same look about it. So Kakuna it is.
A friend on Facebook asked how far along I was, and was the baby as big as a raspberry yet? My other friend had read the post to her family, and her four year old started praying for Baby Raspberry! So, Baby Raspberry it is.
“It” sounds too weird and clinical, but we are yet ready to start using “The Baby”. We had some friends that referred to theirs as “The Panda” a great deal, and while we felt that while it worked well for them it was a bit cutsey for us.
While joking around, one of us referred to him (or her!) quite dramatically as “The Falcon”, and when both of us managed to finally stop laughing we agreed we’d found the perfect nickname. Whenever we tell people they laugh out loud too and so we know we chose a good start.
