Laboring on Labor Day

By , About.com Guide   August 31, 2010

Follow me on:

Labor Day is next Monday in the US and I have always thought it was funny to be in labor on Labor Day.  I actually came very close two years ago, having my daughter on Labor Day Weekend.  But she was born the day before Labor Day, August 31st. It was a lovely water birth, though I hadn't planned on the water birth!

What about it - do you think about laboring on Labor day?  Or other special days?  Anyone anxious to have a Labor Day baby?

My youngest son now 10 (b-day monday) was born on labor day, it was kinda neat!! I think that every 4 or 5 years his b-day falls on labor, he is always excited about that!!!!!!

I would love to go into labor on Monday. It’s my due date. But I have a feeling it’s not going to happen. :(

It’s funny that you mention this because Birth is also a play by Karen Brody which is performed internationally on or around labor day.

It’s playing in Houston on select dates between September 22nd and October 3rd.

Since I am now 41 weeks on Labor Day, I won’t going into labor today! But normally I have been against it. I’m a Thanksgiving baby, and I hate having a holiday bday!

I was born on Labor Day, and, today, so was my daughter.

…nowadays it might have a nice ring to it but back in ‘75 when I was born the only MDs around on the 3rd were political refugees….. I was born on the right side of the tracks in New York Hospital (Upper East)…. the Chinese intern was so good he figured mom would be in labour for 40 hrs and therefore actually put the date of birth rather than the date of admission…. Result: mom was so out of it after 40 hours of labour she did’t even notice, dad…… well……he was from a Baltic state and let’s leave it at that…..my Italian grandmother (who took the first intercontinental flight of her life to see this miracle) actually had to smack (those who are Italian: full hand behind the head; full force) mom and dad…To make a long story short I was born on Set.3 1975 but I have 3 passports and a helluvalot of documents that state I was born on the 5th….

My daughter Emmy Rose was also born Sept. 6, 2010 Labor Day. The season finale of Secret Life of the American Teenager was on and I remember the first minute and the rest was push, push, push. She was born at 8:09 pm. Ironically it wasn’t too much of a laborous labor, I dilated and progressed quickly..

So maybe there is a benefit to laboring on labor day! My last was born the day before labor day.
