Telling Your Boss You're Pregnant

Wednesday May 13, 2009
I can remember a few pregnancies back that I was really nervous about telling my boss that I was pregnant with twins. I figured he'd be more worried about me taking off work than anything else. I told someone he knew and even though I said, "Don't tell..." You can image my horror the next day when my boss said, "Robin, do you have anything you want to tell me?" I learned the hard way that you should always tell your boss first.

But telling your boss doesn't have to be scary or a horror story. Be prepared and know what to say and when. With the confidence you express, your boss will feel better and you can have peace of mind!

I’m fortunate enough to work from home as a freelance writer, so my schedule is very flexible.

I do have a client I work very closely with, and when Hubby and I were telling everyone (not just family), I did tell her I was pregnant. I told her we were very excited, and that while it may mean I’ll have to cut back on projects for a while in August/September, I’m still excited to be working with her.

Not only was she excited for me (she never had children of her own), but she’s even been asking for updates and belly pictures!

I’ve heard so many horror stories about pregnancy and work–I wish more people could have a boss like my client!
