Maternity Thongs Take Over the World
Sunday March 29, 2009
When I was pregnant with my first seventeen years ago, being pregnant meant one thing in the underwear department - grandma panties. I even specifically remember a very vivid scene from a movie during that time where this beautiful and pregnant woman had her husband slowly fold up her cute prepregnancy underwear and stare horrified at the huge cotton panties they were replacing. Speed ahead to today and what you find everywhere is a variety of different types of panties for pregnancy, but the one shocker is the sheer number of maternity thongs that have crept up. (Pun intended.) Apparently the fashion sense is that if it's going to ride up, you might as well put it there yourself. Where do you fall in the great maternity panty debate?

I would rather go without any than be subjected to a thong! I like the low rise briefs for pregnancy but if a thong was my only choice then I say be free!
It’s funny because bikinis are currently winning the poll…and I have very similar feelings about thongs.
Boy shorts all the way! Walmart sells a seasonal boy short pantie, usually in a facing isle, that are the most comfortable thing in the world. I also recently bought some actual maternity boy shorts from Motherhood. Those are very nice too. Thank GOD I don’t have to wear those granny panties this time around!
-Mom to 4 (ages 11 to 16) and pregnant again at age 39
AISLE dangit… AISLE!!
Blame my misspell on pregnancy fog. =oP
I know, in general, boy shorts are becoming popular. I guess I just can’t fathom how they work in pregnancy. KWIM? Do you get that gap near the top of the thigh? Do they really cover your rear?
Pregnancy thongs make me giggle. Sad, but true.
During my first pregnancy, I preferred the maternity bikini-panties. That pregnancy ended in a cesarean that left me with a very sensitive scar / bikini area. After that pregnancy (and during my 2nd pregnancy — btw, i had a VBAC) - and even 3 years later - I have a really hard time with elastic sitting on or near my scar — which has “promoted” (demoted??) me to the grandma panties - pregnant or not. Bummer.
