Reality Check When Trying to Get Pregnant

Once you've made up your mind to try and get pregnant, you're ready NOW! Unfortunately it really doesn't work that way. The menstrual cycle is complex and sensitive. Everything has to be lined up just right for the egg to meet the sperm and for that fertilized egg to land in the right spot and produce the right amount of hormones to sustain itself... you get the picture. So the first month you throw away your birth control isn't likely to be the month you get pregnant, even when everything appears to be well timed. Not to say it won't, but if it does, be pleasantly surprised.
I think part of the problem is that we live in a very birth control centered society. We're told from a very early age that if we have sex without birth control we're going to get pregnant. So when we're ready to throw away the birth control we're surprised to not be pregnant! Another part of the issue that when you're ready, you're ready. We've got fast food, urgent care, one hour dry cleaning and drive through pharmacies - why wait for anything?
The good news is that there are some things that you can do to help the process along. You can know about ovulation and how your body gets pregnant. You can actively try to determine when you ovulate and have sex appropriately. You can prepare your body for pregnancy by being healthy as well as your partner's body. These things can help you get pregnant more quickly.

i have two girls what are my chances of getting a boy this time.
I’ve had three kids and this is some wonderful information for those trying to get pregnant. There are a lot of women and couples out there that are have been having trouble with getting pregnant and are really stressed out about all of this. The more information out there for couples about fertility and trying to conceive the better! Thanks for helping!
Really a nice post, Thank You
I think you’re right that we live in a very birth control centered society. But even more, we live in a society where people assume they’re in charge of their lives, bodies, fertility, etc. And it just ain’t so.
I am saddened whenever I see women waiting to have everything perfect to have a child, and then when they feel the time is right, it is an uphill struggle with declining fertility.
One thing many don’t think about is miscarriage. You might “think” that everything is timed perfectly, a spring baby, for example. Unexpected things happen in many pregnancies. I’ve learned that motherhood makes perfection impossible, especially when it comes to pregnancy. It’s better to get pregnant at the wrong time, than to be unable to get pregnant because you were waiting for the perfect time.
My partner and I are going to start ttc on the 1st Jan. I didi want to lose 1/2 a stone before…not that I’m that overweight. I weigh 10 stone and before christmas I was 9 1/2 stone. I just think that while I could choose to wait until I’m back to 91/2 stone, I may not concieve for another year so what would be the point? Its not a life threatening weight and providing I eat a healthy diet while preggers the extra few pounds won’t really make a difference. You can wait and wait until you “feel” like everything is ready for another baby and then it could take you a year to concieve. I truly agree with all of these comments. Although, if you want another baby but are about to be evicted from your home then obviously the time would be wrong!!!! As long as you have a roof over your head and have the basic warewithal required to raise a child then just do it. Otherwise, you may miss your chance!
