10 Things NOT to Say to an Overdue Woman

Friday August 1, 2008

I'm one of those people who has babies who can't read calendars (Please remind me of this in a few weeks!). While we all know that the concept of a 40 week pregnancy is only a guess, it still hard to not focus on a due date. The process of being overdue is largely psychological and emotional. I mean it's so hard not to get it in your head that a due date means something. Why else would we circle it on the calendar? But seriously, what makes it worse is the phone calls, the comments and the general disregard for how I might feel about not having had the baby yet. So, if you call and I answer the phone, don't ask me if I'm still here... And while you're at it, don't say anything else I've written about here. (I'd also remember not to say any of these to our due dates forum moderator, Ashley, who is officially due today!

Here is some information on what happens when your pregnancy extends past that magic number - your due date. From what testing you can expect, to induction of labor and even when to let nature take it's course.

Do you have a suggestion of something not to say? You can add your thoughts at the forum.

Isn’t it terrible that people don’t understand how their comments can effect a woman that’s already feeling like a time bomb ready to explode- that is, until they are in the situation themselves??

Hang in there!
