Pregnant Man Gives Birth

Thursday July 3, 2008
On June 29th it is reported that Thomas Beatie, a transgendered man, gave birth to a daughter. He is married to Nancy, who has two full grown children from a previous relationship.

Beatie was raised as a woman, but received hormone injections and had his breasts surgically removed to live his life as a man and legally marry Nancy. He did not have his other reproductive organs removed. Nancy was unable to bear the couple's children because she had previously had a hysterectomy. Beatie and his wife became famous on Oprah's show earlier this year when they announced the pregnancy.

Doctors in Bend, Oregon have not given out much information. Though it is believed that the baby was not born via cesarean section but born vaginally. The couple conceived via at home artificial insemination (AI), also known as intrauterine insemination (IUI).
