May is National Preeclampsia Month

Pregnancy Induced Hypertension (PIH) is high blood pressure in pregnancy. Left untreated it can lead to many problems for you and your baby including strokes. If you experience the high blood pressure with other symptoms you are said to have preeclampsia. About 7% of pregnancies will experience some form of the disease. The Preeclampsia Foundation is hosting walks to raise money for research as well as education. When you have preeclampsia there are also higher risks for other complications including Type II Diabetes and HELLP Syndrome. HELLP Syndrome has been in the news recently, since Trista Sutter's birth after being diagnosed with HELLP in her pregnancy last summer.
