Feeling Your Baby Move - Quickening

Monday November 26, 2007
I will never forget the first time I felt any of my seven children move. These memories stick out very keenly in my mind. I remember it more than even the pregnancy test. Is it a surprise that women remember it this way? (The show? Some cute and funny, the rest so wrong.)

Quickening, is the term used to describe the miracle of the first flutters from your baby that you are able to feel. Some women describe this moment as gas or bubbles. Learn when you should feel your baby and how to ensure that's what you're really feeling by doing fetal kick counts.

The question of when you will feel your baby move is first in a long list of questions, followed closely by questions like "What's up with my belly button?" and "When will my belly show?"

I will never forget laying there and wondering what was happening. I was half asleep and laying on my side. I thought it was morning sickness and my stomach rumbling, then I felt it on my hand! It was so cool. I screamed and woke up my husband!

My first feeling was that I just wasn’t sure what it was. Did I really feel something? Then it was kind of annoying that DH didn’t feel anything for MONTHS after I was sure. I still miss that most.
