Sex to Induce Labor?

well i was 10 days overdue and since my due date we were going bonkers and it didnt help i still had to be induce went over speed bumps in car. i think if the baby is ready it may work but if the baby is simply not ready then nothing you do will help except drug inducment. he was definatley ready though my placenter was only 1/4 viable. so sex didnt help us…

I was at my due date with my second child. I went eight days over with my first and didn’t want to repeat that. My husband had read that if I were to have an orgasm it could help with inducing. We decided to give it a try and the next day I was having contraction 5 minutes apart, all day. When I called my doctor that afternoon, he told me if they got any closer to go to the hospital, otherwise, show up the next morning so he could break my water. I think the orgasm helped urge the baby along but for all I know, he was on his way anyway.

I went a week over my due date and we tried the organism trick to induce labor and it didn’t work. It actually left me quite sore. I agree that if the baby is not ready to come out, othing will do it but medical inducement.

It totally worked for me! It was a week before my due date and a few people had told us about having sex to induce.Well we had sex on saturday morning and by 10:00 pm I was in labor. I am now 7 months prego again and am going to give it another try. We will see if it works twice!

I believe it to be true that sex brings labpr on because I am pregnant and three days ago a day after I had sex I went into early labor.

I was 2 weeks overdue with my second child and my husband and I tried everything. I moved buckets of water, couches, and had at least 3 orgasms a day/night! The baby comes when it’s good and ready, bottom line.

With my first, whenever we had sex in the last 2 months, I ended up with fierce contractions, 2 minutes apart for about an hour, then it would slow down and stop. I thought it was false labor until 3 weeks before my due date when it went on for two hours. By the time I got to the hospital, I was 3 cm dilated. I basically could have “picked” my dued date. Sex definitely induced labor for me! We’ll see what happens with #2 due in January.

I am pregnant with my second baby and am due in 5 weeks. I have a few suggestions for bringing on labor. First use a vibrator it brings on stronger contractions, second my ob suggested nipple stimulation. But i am not trying anything for another 3 weeks. I am not ready for this baby yet!!

I was 40 weeks pregnant Sex did not do the trick At 41 weeks we tried again but no LUCK I was 42 weeks pregnant and we tried again but still no LUCK. I wished that it did work because to be induced was not the way for me.

when i was pregnent with my second child it was like every time i had sex i had contractions i think i was about 35 weeks when i started but it hepled alot because i was all baby.

Now with my first baby i was really young and of that friday i had sex and i had Aunjunae on that sunday so i believe it works. if it doen’t work for you and your man maybe his seaman isn’t strong enuff.

my brothers wife shares everything with me. during her last month she had sex and after that day she went into labor. i got my nephew.

It worked for me. I went into labor at 4:00 am after having sex around 11:00 pm.

Nipple stimulation as part of foreplay has a lot to do with it too. I had sex regularly through all of my pregnancies, but had to stop the last month of each because every orgasm started contractions. With my last one, though, we cut out all breast stimulation and – suddenly – no more contractions!

I was a week overdue, when my husband and I had sex the only thing that happened was my water broke. I went to the hospital and still had to receive pitocin, since I still had no contractions. I had a c-section 10 hours later.

I was at 38 weeks and they wanted to induce me due to elevated bp. I convinced them to send me home on bedrest since I was not dialated or effaced at all yet. We didn’t have sex, but I did masterbate – a lot (5-6 times a day)! When I went in for a check two days later I was dialated 1-2 cm and 80% effaced. I ended up having the baby a week later and it was a very easy labor and delivery – 3 cm to baby in 4 hours with only 30 minutes of pushing! And this was my first. Orgasms work magic in many ways!!!

When i had my first child ( im now pregnant with second) we heard the same thing an i was getting a bit fed up so we started and he came 2 1/2 weeks early so i will definatly be doing it again.

The due date arrived and no sign of impending birth. That afternoon I went to my doctor who examined me and told me not for a few more days, to go home and relax. At 6:30pm I went to prenatal classes and the mid wife said the same thing as my baby had not descended yet. By 10:30pm I started to feel labour pains and she was born the next morning at 9:20am. Every time we had sex I had contractions that led to nothing. Finally what we did was we had sex, then when my contractions started to lessen we had sex again and sure enough within 5 hrs of the second time I was in the hospital. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t dilate past 5cm even after they induced me to speed things up, so I had a c-section. So, it worked for me but I don’t know if I’d do it again!

I am three days overdue, and have been dialated to a 1 for three weeks now. my mother used castor oil with all her children and claims it works.but from my experience it doesnt I have tried that, i have been walking almost everynight,and not even sex works. I believe if he just isnt ready there is nothing you can do, but let the doctors take over. I am scheduled to be induced the 28th. thank god. Hes finally gonna be here

I am due in three weeks with my first baby and am very anxious to deliver. Each time I think of having sex, I hold back because I think I might orgasm too hard and push out the baby. I am not too sure I can hold out much longer though…so I will let you know how it goes.

have 4 weeks to go and have been going at it hell for leather and drinking raspberry leaf so far nothing happening but i did the same for first pregnancy and had a very easy delivery 1cm to delivery in 1 hr 43 mins

I think it works. We stayed sexualy active throught both my pregnancies. I had my first baby at 37 weeks and we had had sex the night before. My second baby was born at 38 weeks and we had sex just hours before.

as an OB nurse…Yes, the sex works but,not only is it the nipple stimuli and orgasm, but the sperm need to sit on the cervix to help soften it and allow you to dialate…castor oil just gives you diarrhea in labor…ughhh just be careful not to attempt this too early as it could cause premature babies….

I know the orgasms help. I must agree with the OB nurse (Comment by nollie — June 23, 2006 @ 5:01 am). I maintained a healthy sex life, and assisted my self at times near the end. Both my children came early. 1 was a week, and the other was 10 days.

Well I didn’t try sex to induce, I was already having strong contractions and just got in the mood. I do believe that because I was already in labor that it caused things to go faster, by allowing me to dialate faster. Even though I don’t have any proof that the sex caused anything, it was worth it.

I believe that regular orgasms throughout pregnancy help to stimulate contractions. While pregnant with my daughter I maintained a healthy sex life with orgasm, I had many instances when I had braxton-hicks contractions after, and 17 days before my due date I had my daughter. Like other women have said in one way or another, it is the orgasm, not the act of intercourse that induces contractions.

Well alot of you are very far off, it’s not the actual act of sex that induces labor, it’s the semen, it has a component in it that softens and thins the lining blocking the way to the cervix, so yes in some cases sex does help induce labor, but no it’s not a definite.

For my 1st pregnancy, my husband and I went for a walk, went home and had sex, and sure enough, when I woke up the next morning I was calling my husband home from work.
I just hope it works the 2nd time around too!

If you combine sperm with orgasm you will have labor. I tried it with my daughter and it worked. Sex at 8 am and she was born by 1 pm. Although you should be doing it more than just one time to go into labor. Something in the man’s sperm helps soften the cervix at least that is what the doctor told me

I believe sex at the end of pregnancy really does speed up labor, because at the end of my pregnancy, i had sex, then my baby boy was born and i was only in labor for 6 hours, maybe it was luck…maybe the sex really did help, we may never truly know, but i believe it helped

I also believe that sex helps. I had my son in Nov. of 2005, I went into the hospital twice, two weeks in a row, coinsidentally both on Monday’s…but both times, the night before my husband and I had sex, and sure enough I would be woken up in the wee hours of the morning/very late at night with contractions. My mother in law worked at the OB’s office and she said that they were probably just braxton hicks. Well the first time I went in and the hooked me up and decided that they weren’t strong enough anymore to keep me so they sent me home to rest, the next time I went in, that next Monday morning at around 4am I was 5 cm already. I had a very easy delivery. Although, I would suggest being careful. I was only 36 weeks, which is a difficult age to be sure everything will be ok or not. My son ended up having to be in the NICU with underdeveloped heart and lungs for 12 days…..I would have rather waited. But we’re gonna try that again with the next one due in April 07′

I was 34 1/2 weeks along and my baby was measuring @ 8lbs. My husband and I had sex and that night the baby was on his way.
Sex REALLY works!

It worked for us – 3 times out of 3. And as some other women mentioned, I could have picked my due date with my 3rd; actually I did pick my date. The key is relaxation & enjoyment, and that’s not that easy when you’re 9 mos pregnant & uncomfortable!

I went two weeks passed my due date with my first baby.Sex didn’t seem to work for us.I have read that its the semen that helps put you into labor and it can even cause miscarriage (if you are already a bit predisposed) early in pregnancy.We’re expecting baby #2 in Dec. I’m definately going to try sex to induce labor and keep my fingers crossed!

yes i think sex can start labor.i just started my 39th week and two days before my ob/gyn said my cervix was softening.on saturday evening my hubby and i had sex one last time we figured and i went to the hospital a few hours later.i wasnt having contractions at all til after later on.i had a natural birth because she came so fast.i went from 2cm to 8 in about 15 min.when i got to hospital she was born after an hour.so yea sex can do it.

My dear, I think that sex does work, It did work for me for my first pregnancy, I was in my 39 weeks and had sex about 11pm, by early morning I started having contraction and went straight to hospital, some hours later, my beautiful daughter was born. I’m due in a couple of weeks (15th Oct) and believe me I will try it again, I hope it works again.

I totally belive this works! With our first, when I felt small contractions, I thought that we should have sex to bring them on stronger, and a hour or so later we were off to the hospital ready to deliver. With this second baby I intend to do the same. I think its the male sprem that brings it on!

I don’t know if I believe this works for everybody. I have been having active sex my whole pregnancy,now 35 wks along. But then again, I do get very mild contractions afterwards sometimes. I also go to the bathroom right after sex all the time…lol… because the baby is so low. Anyways, I am going to try not going to the bathroom and see what happens. Maybe when I am 37 wks. Kinda to test this theory myself. I want my daughter to hopefully be fully developed when I try though, so yea I will wait till 37 wks.

Sex put me in pre mature labor at 34&1/2 weeks..but didn’t make me dilate, so they gave me dimeral and sent me home..we tried at 37 weeks and I dilated to 2..I am almost 38 weeks and am still 2..we are going to try again and see what happens..

My due date is october 21 saturday. i’ll be 40 weeks on saturday and by the looks of it we wont be coming out and my doctor told me that they might have to induce my labor and by this being my first birth, im scared, but my husband and i tried making love but that hurts. i dont know what to do

I am curently 37 weeks pregnant. I am already starting to dialate and eface, in addition my baby is head down. My husband and I have had sex a couple of times and I have started to have contractions with in minutes of finishing. However, it has not induced labor. The baby will come when it is ready.

i am 37 weeks pregnant and my husband just got back from army basic training. we have been making up for lost time, *wink, and i have had contractions after each time, but nothing strong yet. we are hoping the baby will come before he goes to back to virginia in 8 days!

My doctor recommended sex to speed things up, because semen contains a chemical similar to pitocin, but after reading everyones comments, it sounds like as long as the woman orgasms, then the contractions come. Once again, it takes two to have a baby, or one if you masturbate ^_^ – Well, I am trying out sex non stop next week, and i’ll let you all know if it worked

It isn’t working for me! My husband and I have had sex 4 times in the last week and all I’ve gotten is a constant cramp that goes across the top of my uterus for the last 72 hours. We have been trying absolutely EVERYTHING to get the baby started, and nothing is working. I guess that I’m one of the believers that the baby will come when she’s ready to come.

clair…for the last 72 hours across ur upper uterus, your probably starting to have early labour symptoms and it being 5 days after u posted u probably have a baby now in your arms! lol

ne who with my frsit pregnancy i had sex like every day for my entire pregnancy and went 4 days over due the day before i had sex (hubby on top) and the next day my water broke and she was born on the monday (had sex on saturday) i went into labour on the 5th, 19 hour labour, 20 min. pushing, second, she was born at 37 weeks 4 days, 23 hour labour, tunred breech had c-section but 2 days before i had sex (hubby on top again) and went into labour 2 days later, this pregnancy we havent had much sex, expecting my first son next month and he is very low im already 90%, 1cm, short, soft and posterior, but i might try sex a 3rd time (three times a charm) and see what happens.

Ok, what is it about sex that makes u go in labor? Is it the orgasms or his sperm? I heard it was something in the sperm, but I also heard it is the orgasms so help me out!

Sex WORKS!!! however my husband and I have been sexually active this whole pregnancy, and by 37 wks I was already at a 3, at 38wks I was 70% effaced and at the start of 39wks we had our baby. I am not sure how effective it is if you havent been having sex. There is a chemical in his sperm that causes the cervix to ripen, and your orgasam causes contractions, due to the oxicoin released.This is also my first baby, so don’t give up after just one shot!!

I’m 41 weeks and this baby just isn’t coming!! I’ve tried everything EXCEPT castor oil.. I’m going crazy!! He’s baby number 1

I have four children and pg with number 5. With my first i was 37 weeks and had sex the next morning 6 am my water broke. With my second i was 35 weeks had sex and woke up at 1 am with contractions, i was 5 cm dilated when i arrived at hospital, with my third i was 39 weeks and had sex contractions started immediately and upon arriving at hospital i was 8 cm dilated. with my fourth at 36 weeks i had sex the night before and the next day at my checkup i was 5 cm dilated with no contractions. with the third and fourth i never had an orgasm. as the orgasm makes the uterus contract the sperm acts as an inducer causeing the cervix to soften and dilate. plan on trying it again this time, but going to wait i am 35 weeks and have already had to have labor stopped after sex. so once i make it to about 37-38 weeks i will try again.

it was a day before my due date and i was on the net looking for ways to induce labour, and tryed everything to hot currys to sex and nothing worked and then came acrosss this one was to rub vaseline on your nipples for 3hrs but i got contractions straight away. i done it on mon midnight and had her on the wednesday morning but i had contractions all tuesday, really try it, it works,,

with my first pregnancy i was due sept 27 2006 and had sex on the 23rd around 11 at night. i didn’t get any sleep all that night and the next morning realized i was in labor. i had my daughter 12 hours later so i think sex really works. especially if everytime after sex you get a some kind of cramping feeling or the braxton hicks contractions.

I’m almost 38 weeks pregnant with twins and my cervix is still closed although i have been having pre-labor symptomns such as cramping and backache but now nothing. im very anxious to have these babies now so i am going to try sex and see what happens. wish me luck!

Okay I have a 2 year old son and with his labor I was drug induced but now Im 9 months pregnant with my second boy and I want to try the sex inducement. But Im already 3 centimeters dilated just waiting for my water to break so we will see how it works.

I was actually told that swallowing ejaculation was more likely to induce labour than allowing it in the vagina. I guess the hormone works better through your stomach than your vagina.
Personally I haven’t had a break from morning sickness throughout my pregnancy (now at 38 weeks) so it isn’t an option for me, but I’d like to know if it actually works because I’d definitely be willing to at least give it a try.

Well i think it those work just havin sex while ur pregnant helps for the labor to be easier. I was very sexually active with my third child, I was due Nov 18, I had sex a Sunday morning before goin to work on Oct 30 n by 1:00 pm my water broke, i had my baby by three without even pushing so i now that havin sex really help me go through labor way easier.

Well I been having sex every day and Im 39 weeks pregnant and I couldnt even tell u what a contraction feels like! This baby will never come out! I will be on my due date crying! Im not saying sex doesnt work but its not working for me.

Hang in there! Remember, babies can’t read calendars. You can go up to 42 weeks and still be considered normal. Not every has their baby before 40 weeks.

I am 39 weeks today and after reading this message board about all of the sex and orgasms it kind of got me in the mood, my husband and I just had sex the baby is moving alot more than normal and I had a strong orgasm I hope the orgasm and the combination of his semen helps this baby along. For the past month we have been having sex and I make him leave it in because what I have heard about semen. Sometimes its uncomfortable for me to have sex so I make him get it over with fast but I dont orgasm.. I think its the semen and the orgasm that do the trick.

I think it definitely works. I went at 38 weeks 1 day with my first and 38 weeks 5 days with my second, both within twelve hours of having sex. Getting ready to try it again with number three =) It has worked for us so far.

Hey I’m now 35 weeks with my second baby. I never had sex during my first baby and she was 12 days late. I was in labor for 30 hrs when they finally decided to give me a C-section.
I’m still not having any sex during this pregnacy so I’m really scared that I will never have this baby.
However I have tons of friends who swear by sex. It actually the Prostaglandins in the sperm that ripen the cervix..and nipple stimulation . I hear its so good it could be dangerous as it causes really strong contractions!

My first son was born 3 weeks early, (he dropped at 32 weeks and my water broke before contractions started), so I can’t say for sure if sex brought labour on. However, with my second son, we did it, and after sleeping for an hour I experienced 4 hours of “false” labour. We didn’t have sex again for 12 days, but when we did, again after an hour of sleep I woke up feeling the EXACT same pains, only with a little more pressure, and I ended up having him a week early! I am currently pregnant right now, and after having sex at 35 weeks an hour later I had 4 hours of “false” labour again (I hate to call it false because the contractions feel like active labour…). I’m trying to wait until I’m 37 weeks but… I def think it’s more than just a coincidence!

I just left my dr a few hours ago. I am 38 weeks only 1 cm and 50% effaced. Due to size of baby and speed of previous births an induction at 39 week sis being considered. My dr told me to go hom e and have “alot of sex” his philosophy is “sex got you into this and sex is the only thing that may help get you out”. He said if it doesnt cause labor it should hopefully at least make my cervix favorable for induction. I had sex as soon as I got home..Im a bit crampy but no real contractions yet. I will keep trying and let you know if it works.
BTW I tried castor oil with my first whenI was not dialated at all and 80% effaced, I had been at dr that day (my due date) and was told wed be doing a non stress week the next week…I went into labor hours after taking the oil HOWEVER the baby had mechonium (her first bowel movement inside me) which luckily did notcause any problems but could have had she gotten it into her lungs. I later found out that castor oil does sometimes cause that so I never tried that again.

I am 38.5 weeks along and I was to be induced yesterday but the cervix was still closed so the OB said go home. I was soo upset..I wanted her out! So my husband and I had sex and then the cramping started and the braxton hicks contractions became more intense. Later in the day my mucus plug came out. We are going to give it another try maybe she will be here soon with the second attempt!

If all of your vitamin levels and stuff are good to go, (iron levels, vit d etc) and baby is happy, most methods of induction will work, but sex is a sure fire way to help out… if bubs is not happy, nothing will bring it on, except for actual hospital induction, which even then wont work all the time…
When i was pg with bub 1, three weeks prior to my due date, we had sex and sure enough, bub was on his way by 3am that morning… bub 2 was a different story.. i had extremely low iron levels, and bub was staying put for as long as she could…

my wife and I were in and out of the hospital about 3 times for the last 8 weeks of her first pregnancy. We never put two and two together until the last time. The doctor never even asked us if we’d had sex I just happen to mention it and he gave a kind of “why didn’t I think of it” look. He said it’s more likely the semen that causes the contractions but either way our having sex and my climaxing inside my wife led to early contractions. She is now in her 32 week and for the past four weeks now we’ve had to limit our ourselves and have now reached the point of no intercourse and little foreplay to prevent braxton hicks’ an cramping. We don’t want to lead to actual contractions again.

i think it might work….i am 38.5wks and i feel worn out. i have tried it tonight and i hope it actually works. i had contractions on monday and tuesday…..i want this baby to arrive, like now!!! this is baby #2. i have never experienced labor, coz #1 was breech and i had to go for C-s. Books say that semen has prostagladins that cause the cervix to begin opening. prostagladins are used to induce labor….so all the best to all who are trying this out.

I am 34w 2d and I am 2cms and 65% effaced.My doc has had me go in every week to be checked and at my last visit he told me absolutely no sex! He says the sperm tends to weaken the cervix and anything in the vagina may bring on contractions and they’re trying to get me to at least 36 weeks. The sex trick worked with my first pregnancy,,she was born the very next day so as soon as this baby is healthy enough to be born I will be trying it again if he doesn’t make his grand appearance on his own!!!

we tried this a week ago when i waa 38 weeks pregnant after i lost my mucus plug and had experienced some regular contractions, didnt work. However at 39 weeks pregnant no more signs of baby we had sex i climaxed this time unlike last time and by morning had lower back and abdominal ache lasting all day and midwife said wouldn’t be too long as baby was lying very low following day im still waiting but all the signs are still there and have experienced some contractions so perhaps sex does work!!! we will soon see

I am going to try it tonight,(I will be 39 weeks Saturday) I hope and pray it works because my man leaves Monday. I go to the doc. tomorrow last week when I went the baby had droped. Went to the hospital and they just sent me back home. Hope tomorrow is different.

I believe a good orgasim brings on Labour not sex we (me and my Fiancee)had great sex even though I was a week and half over due and I was going to get the doctor to induce me but we thought to try the old myth of having sex to bring on labour and it works!!

well, i’m 37 weeks pregnant with my first so i know i dont really have any experience with this but the last month of me and my BF havin sex i would sometimes get ALOT of pressure for like an hour or so, and now a few days ago we had sex again and i got an extreme amount of pressure for the rest of the night and now ONLY 2 days later the doc said i’m dilated to 1cm. which isnt much but she said the pressure was from me dilating. so i think that sex does bring it on cuz it ONLY happens after sex.

Well I have read every comment and there seems to be more “yes it worked for me” then “not it didn’t” so I am going to try tonight. I am 38 weeks with my second child and am so wanting him here. My husband and I are going to try it tonight. Wish me luck!!

Im 39weeks and 2 days, im 5 days away from my due date and me and my husband our trying SEX to induce labor! We tried the other day and NOTHING HAPPENED so we tried again today hopefully tonight ill be in labor; the only thing I feel now is my stomach is HARD.!

Well we tried the other night and nothing happened. I am 39 weeks Friday and I have been feeling alot of pressure the last couple days. The doctor says that I am 1cm dilated. How long will it be now. I am hoping this weekend. I will try sex again and see how it works. I have been taking cod liver oil but that mainly seems to be helping my bowel (which is good) rather then anything else.
If anyone was dilated and sent home because they weren’t in labour can you share alittle bit of how long after did it take to go into labour?

I had sex at 37 weeks and had painful contractions all night long, but never went into labor. However, the next visit I was 2-3 cm dialated, so it may have helped to ripen the cervix. I did not have an orgasm, so that has nothing to do with it. It is the semen that does the trick. You can try sex but, it may just cause pain and no labor.

I’m 37 weeks, with my fourth one and everytime we have sex, all I get is painful contractions 2mins apart for about 8 hours. I am 2-3 cm dialated and 70% thinned.. Honestly I think Walking ( pushing a stroller or buggy up and down hills to have traction) helps.. I keep telling myself that the contractions I get are preparing me for when I do actually go into labor! Sooo who knows, its different for everyone!

I am currently 39 weeks with my second prenancy. Having sex with my first child worked, we had sex when I was 39 weeks and not even 20mins after my water broke and I had him in 8 hours. I haven’t had sex in a while because it hurts but Im gone try it again and see if it works again.

We had sex the night before and the morning of my due date. By 10am I WAS having contractions every 10min I went to the hospital and they sent me home telling me that when they were 5min apart to come back. The contractions went on for 9 hours then they completely stopped had nothing till next day at 10am and very far apart. Now 3 days past my dute date and not delivered yet… I guess we provoked early labor. I am so ready and feel sad I have no baby in my arms yet.

Hi, i have 2 children already, maddie 4 and ethan 2, pg with 3rd (another boy) currently 37wks 5days due aug 15th 2009, i had a sweep tues just gone i was told by my midwife i am currently 2cm dialated and cervix very favourable (means baby is ready) and that the sweep should work within 24-48 hours but 2 days later still nothing, me and hubby have been doing the deed so to speak since i was about 36 weeks, again i get what feels like small contractions for a few hours then nothin (very disappointing) over the past few weeks i have tried everything, eating whole pineapples, hot curries, really hot baths, rasberry leaf tea, rasberry leaf capsules, evening primrose capsules, sex, and nothing works and my spd is starting to become unbearable, especially when running around after 2 young children, i am at my wits end, i have never gone into labour naturally as my first i was induced at 10 days overdue and my second i went in with stomach cramps at 36wks 6days and had to have emergancy c-section, so i am stuck now for what else to try, i think i will just have to resign myself to the fact he dont want to come out yet, i feel like i have been pregnant forever lol xxx

My understanding is this: prostaglandin, which is located in sperm, will help soften the cervix. Therefore, man’s orgasm = prostaglandin release (apparently, it is best absorbed through the stomach…) Oxytocin however, is released in the woman’s body following orgasm and/or nipple stimulation, and it is said can also help move labour along. Therefore in an ideal situation, both partners will orgasm.

However, I am 40+5, have been having sex all week and nothing has happened yet…although I do have some wicked contractions immediately afterwards, they only last for about an hour and half, then suddenly stop.

We are definitely looking forward to meeting our little man and expect he will come when he is good and ready: I just wish he would listen to his mother and come out already!!

Is it the sex or the semen that helps??

I do believe it is true because with my first pregnancy I would get extremely painful cramping after sex from when I was 26 weeks forward. Then one day after sex I got the bad cramping again and my membranes ruptured. I was 6 weeks early, when I was in labor I realized the bad cramping I was feeling was contractions so sex would make me contract…..the doctor also asked me if I had sex when I went in.

Well my due date was the 23rd. And like most everytime after sex, I would cramp really bad. We are going to try again tonight to see if we can have a baby soon b.cuz I am ready to see my previous little boy!

It sounds to me like both people having an orgasm can start labor.
I get contractions every time we have sex but it’s been like that since I was 17 weeks prego. I’m 37 weeks now & no dilation, effacement, ect. However, I do plan on trying it every day for now on & see what happens!

It worked for me! It was one week before my due date…but I was ready! Within 15 minutes after having sex, my water broke. Within an hour I was in labor and delivery!

this is my second child. i tried sex with him and it never helped i was 11 days overdue. i am overdue again and i was more wondering if he did not pull out if it would help i heard it was the sperm that puts you in labor not the orgasm.

Well I am almost 37 weeks, my husband and I are stationed in two different states so when we get the chance to see eachother, we of course make love as many times as we can, well this past weekend we did and i had a few contractions but nothing to regular, they were intense but not regular. Unfortunately we probably wont have the oppurtunity to try again but i have an appointment this friday so i will see if i have dialated any since my last apmnt!

With all three of my children I was sexually active until I had my babies. The first two it did not induce labor, but my cervix was completely effaced and I was 4 cm dilated at 41 weeks and 29 weeks for the first two. With number 3 i was having sex as well, and the cervix showed the same progression. At 37 weeks and 5 days, I had some very intense sex with a strong orgasm and nipple stimulation. I went into labor that night. I ate a banana split after I had sex that night. I will forever refer to sex-inducing labor as “the banana split.”. lol

Well, to stop the arguments: it is BOTH the orgasm AND the semen that CAN (not always) induce labour.

The semen works on the cervix, whereas the orgasm releases oxytocin (so does nipple stimulation) which is a natural hormone in your body that is released prior to/during labour (and what they give you to induce labour). So it is definitely worth a try!

I’m 37wks pregnant and already going mad and would like baby to arrive – so hubby and I are going to try tonight! Would appreciate any position suggestions as we haven’t had “proper sex” in a while! lol

I believe that sex definitly helps with #1 I did have sex the Saturday and Sunday my beautiful boy was delivered I will definitly try it with #2

hey girlies…well im 39 weeks on fri. Babys head has been fully engaged for 2 weeksnow yet no sign, im due xmas day and having my sweep early morning xmas eve, but we are all hoping our lil girl arrives b4 then!!! I have tried countless things to bring on labour such as last 2 weeks iv been taken rasberryleaf tabs, eating pineapple daily, walking and iv had sex 3 times and still no luck i mean whyyyyyyyy?!?! i just dnt get why she isnt coming out shes been ready for few weeks . iv been having lots of aches n twinges and bhicks and i even had false labour over a week ago but stil no sign im fed up and want her out !

Yes sex works very well if you are ready. I am 39 weeks and have been to the hospital numerous times due to sex. What it is, is your contracting uterus when you orgasm and the semen both play a part in inducing labor. Also lying in your left side after your man ejaculates or having him stay inside you may help as it alowes the semen to stay close to the cervix. Good luck to all and remember stay relaxed!

I am due Jan. 11 and have been trying everything (with the exception of castor oil- that one kinda scares me). I ate pinapple, lots of spicy food, walked for HOURS, did stairs for HOURS (still sore), jumped a lot, drank a glass of wine…we are trying a bumpy ride tonight and I am going to try sex again today. I think you have to lie down with it on your cervix for like 30 mins+. When we did it last I think I went to the bathroom too fast (hard not to these days- lol). Dr. said 2 days ago to go for sex bec. there is a chemical like pitocin in it and it naturally softens the cervix. Also, I am 38 weeks and 5 days- 3 cm dialated and 50% effaced. Make sure your baby is fully “cooked” before you try this…even at 37 weeks your baby could be a bit underdeveloped since due dates can be a couple weeks off in either direction. Im 37 weeks pregnant ive had sex everyday since i turn 37 weeks (4 days) and still nothing im just wishing that something happen ( tried it every way possible). I have a Boy ( Almost 3 year old) And he is very active. Ive also tried Pineaple, Rasberry left tea, warm bath glass of wine…. hopefully something will happen let me know if u have anymore sugestion.

With my first, 9 years ago, I do believe that having sex got our little one moving along – I was in labour 5 hours later. He was 11 days overdue, but I didn’t mind because I loved every minute of being pregnant with him!!! And we just had sex for something to do!!!

My 2nd, almost 5 years later, was a textbook pregnancy and birth, on the due date with no drugs of any sort, and no sex. I put it down to prayer and positive thinking – it was all so incredible, and wonderful, especially after miscarrying a number of times in between both children…

With our third, due in July, all being as it should, I wouldn’t hesitate in having sex around the time of baby’s due date; so it will be interesting if things come about similarly to the first because of it…

I think if you’re well and comfortable at the end of your pregnancy, sex certainly can’t hurt, and if you benefit from it in more ways than one, then… perfect!!!

i think depending on the person and everythin it could work.. i have tried and didnt have contractions but i am 38wkz n 1day, 80% effaced and 3cm. i am going to be tryin tonight and hopefully this works.

I was due with my first child feb 22, my husband and i went out for valentines day (feb 14th) knowing we wouldnt get to be real romantic for awhile. Hi everyone. I am about to try the sex theory to see if it will work for me. I am currently 37 weeks and 3 days with baby number two. My oldest is 9 years old, so I don’t know if time is a factor it really shouldn’t matter though. I think that my cervix is favorable for the sex theory considering that I am 37 weeks and 3 days, 4cm dilated, 50% effaced and the baby is in the minus 1 position. I hope that this works cause I am so ready. My mucus plug has been dropping for the last week and we have definitely been having contractions, so wish me luck guys. Well around 7 months, every time I would have sex, I had contractions. I’m 8 months now, and my Doc told me no more sex, bcoz the last two times i got contractions really bad and started dilating. Poor hubby, its hard to keep my man off of me, but i dont think its coincidence that EVERY TIME we had sex, i got contractions, and every day that we didnt, i had none. But all woman are different, I think some women are easily affected by certain things than others.

I am 37 weeks with my 3rd child and i am so convinced of using the method of sex to induce labour that i am putting off doing it until my hospital bag is packed, which it is not yet. We did it at 34 weeks and i was having contractions afterwards so i am giving it a break until we feel ready. My 2 previous children were born shortly after having sex but i do remember it taking more sex with my first(no complaints there though:)
I would say however that like everything this method may only work for some. I am sure though that “something” will work for everybody, it is just taking the time to find out what that is. My friend went into labour on a swing lol

i had it the night before and the next day my water broke and a few hours later i was having my first baby! so i think it works. even though in my case she was 5 weeks early but i think they got the due date wrong cause she was perfect and didnt need to stay. she weighed 6 pounds 9 ounces. with no problems.

Baby would come out when theyre ready..thats the bottom line.i know moms tend to get desperate to start labor esp when theyre nearing or past their due date already (believe me i know,im at my 39 wks now).in reality,whether having sex may or may not work to us all,do it w/ ur partner because you wanted to cuz after the baby comes out,there will be no much time for intimacy : )

It sure worked for me, but it isn’t just the orgasm, it is the chemical in the sperm, so he needs to ejaculate inside for it to have the full effect.

I am 34 weeks and i had been trying to avoid sex, especially orgasm, because it gives me strong contractions! Last night my hubby begged me for some and i was actually in the mood so we went for it, and 2 hours later i woke up to terrible contractions, so i took a warm bath and i felt better. I definitely think sex with orgasm can bring on labor, but your body has to be ready as well. That is why i think labor progresses for some women, but not for others. Anyone went into labor and actually delivered before 36 weeks by having sex???

I was 39 weeks when my dr suggest sex. we did it everyday night for 5 days straight and on Saturday morning i had bloody show and was in labor that night. It worked for me, but had to it many times. I will definitely try it again.

Both my daughters were born 6 wks prem. Both with contractions which began immediatley after sex. I had painful contractions which lasted 2-5 hours every time after sex from about month 5. At 34 weeks (both pregnancies) they just didnt stop. Now pregnant with my 3rd, will be restraining from sex till at least 35 weeks.

hey everyone, i will be 38 weeks tomorrow, i went into the hospital 4 days ago for “false labour” its very weird though contractions were 5 mins apart then went to 3 miins apart and i was 2 cm dialated. they sent me home and told me to come back when i was ” doubled over in pain” . I have tried everything to help progress labour, last night i hiked a HUGE hill and did lots of walking today. I have lost my mucus plug and have been having contractions but arent strong enough or regular enough to go in, Do you think the sex method will workk for me?

hi..im 35wks n been having sex once awk but lately after intercourse contraction feels so strong and my tummy goes hard. But it only last an hr or so..n its just one large contraction. I dont kno if this will encourage the baby along and hopefully not since im only 35wks along. But def will try again at 37wks and see what happens. But i think it should work since the strong tense contraction had started at 35wks..by 37 the contraction should kick start labour! Fingers cross!

If you are trying to avoid a medical induction, I say look up pregnancy accupressure!!!! I am currently 35 weeks with baby number 5 and I SWEAR by it from past experience! Has worked a charm EVERY time! Last bub, I did 2 days of my own pressure points, had a sweep and within 2 hours of that waters broke, bub was born 2 hours later, and with no signs of readiness, but was simply avoiding a scheduled medical induction. Sex is ALWAYS good though, and providing u r not at risk, I strongly believe the semen does help the cervix ripen, but for a definate, it’s accupressure for me!!!! PLEASE be careful though, don’t do it early, for as frustrating as the last few weeks can be, keep the precious lil bundle cooking for as long as possible! It’s such a short time when u weigh it up against your babies health!! But to Prevent an unavoidable medical Induction I say go for accupressure!!!! Just google it! Xx

Sex during the last month has caused contractions every time. At 40 wks we tried again and it caused intense contractions every 5 minutes for the next 4 hours. Then after laying down, they just fizzled out. The next morning it was like nothing happened. We must have made SOME progress right?

Sex does induce labor. It caused me to have my second child early at 34 weeks and he had to stay in NICU for 2 weeks so i dont suggest doing it until you are close to the end. I always thought i was getting braxton hicks every time me and my hubby had sex but one day the contractions didnt stop. It definitely didnt happen after 1 or 2 times of having sex, it was probably around 10 times but not everyday either. Im now 38 weeks with my third child and have started trying the sex thing again and my OB checked my cervix yesterday and im 80% effaced and 1 cm dilated thanks to sex! It might not work for everybody but i can say it definitely works for me. The trick to it is to make sure he finishes in you and lay in bed for about 10 mins before getting up, the semen has a hormone called prostoglandins that softens your cervix, if you can have an orgasm it will definitely help too because orgasm contracts the uterus. If you dont have a male partner you can use evening primrose oil pills for 5 bucks from any pharmacy, it is just as safe as sex. It contains prostoglandins just like semen to soften your cervix (not quite as potent as semen but it works). It can be taken orally or you can insert a pill vaginally before bed and it will dissolve completely before you even get up to pee in the middle of the night. Or your best option is to cut the pill open and rub the oil on a vibrator or even use your finger and apply directly into your vagina. Dont forget if you can have an orgasm it will help alot, even though i know for some it can be hard when your far along in pregnancy. It is 100% safe as sex, as long as you dont do it too early as you dont want your baby to be premature.

Too close to Christmas day. if sex really works to help induce labour should I start try now or wait few weeks. Has anyone ever had sex just once n gone into full blown labour?

@ Cindy due Dec 24th if you haven’t had an active sex life during your pregnancy I would wait until 37 weeks at least make sure baby is full term. This is my first but I also believe sex induces labour.

Someone mentioned using a vibrator to start labor stating its not just the semen but also the orgasm.. does any one know if that works, my babys’ father unfortunately isn’t around so my hopes to have the baby the day after my due date (due Nov 18th want my son to be born Nov 19th) by having sex and hoping his sperm gets me started isn’t an option.

I have however actively masturbated through out my whole pregnancy.

From what I know, its not an orgasm that brings upon labor, but its the male sperm that stimulates a hormone similar to pitocin (medication used to induce labor) which helps bring upon labor. I don’t know if its true, but my first baby as 2 weeks overdue and I don’t plan to relive that so will try it. If it fails atleast my husband will be thrilled and hopefully will help hold him off for the 6 week postpartum dry spell : )

hey everybody.. i am 38 weeks pregnant and 2 cm dialated.. i believe that sex does work, last week on new years eve we had sex, and about an hour later i started having contractions, but they were not regular, so we didnt make the trip to the doc. but i went to my weekly app that week and was told the contractions i had were brought on by the sex.. the trick is to have sex, let him release inside of you, then dont get up, take a pillow and elavate your hips so that the sperm sits on the cervix. the sperm is a natural form of prostagladins, which is actually what helps to soften the cervix. the potocin that is given to you to induce your labor is another form of prostagladins. now, also the orgasm you have when u have sex releases oxytocin in your body which helps start contractions. thats why sex i believe will def help start labor.. ive been having sex atleast every other night, and after every time i have contractions, but i make sure i elavate my hips for a while before i get out of bed:) i go to the doc wednesday to get checked again, that is if he dont make it here before then lol… but good luck to all of you, hope all babies are healthy!!!

Semen contains the chemical prostaglandin.
Pitocin is a synthetic version of the hormone oxytocin.
Prostaglandins ARE NOT the same thing as oxytocin. They both contribute to different aspects of labor: effacement, dilation, uterine contraction.
If you’re using sex to induce, you have better chances if you orgasm (for the prolonged oxytocin release) and have semen on the cervix (prostaglandins). Nipple simulation ALSO causes oxytocin release. Which is why we encourage women to breast feed after delivery since the oxytocin increases uterine contractions. Why do you want uterine contractions after delivery? Because it helps to contract the muscles, decreasing blood flow to the uterus, decreasing the chances for uterine hemorrhage. Also, oxytocin is a “bonding” hormone. Thus, when you orgasm, are in labor, or breast feeding, your body is releasing oxytocin to facilitate your emotional attachment to your partner or baby!

It was 3 days before my due date and my husband and I had sex, took a break and started to go again. We started with the foreplay part, he started with his fingers, and I had an orgasm. I don’t know about sex bringing on labor, but breastfeeding did it for me twice. My nursing toddler brought on intense contractions and I fed him throughout my labor (while I could) to keep things going. Two years later for my third baby (overdue by a week) our midwife suggested my husband nurse me which totally worked. I actually orgasmed when he latched on and soon after my contractions finally began. I had a six hour labor with no stops in between. I will absolutely breastfeed again to start labor for #4 due April.

I had my cerclage taken out 6 days ago on a Monday….. but they never completely removed it so I’m frustrated b cuz I haven’t had any sign of labor yet I’m 37 weeks and 3 days and due to the fact that I still have some of The stitch in my cervix I’m afraid to even try to have sex. I just wanna have this lil boy and I have to wait a whole week till another doctor appt…I have a feeling I’m gonna need to be induced b cuz I’m only dialated a fingertip so annoyed…….

I am 39 weeks and 2 days. I had a doct appt the other day and I am still only 1 cm and they said my cervix is still too thick. l will be getting induced when i am 41 weeks b/c they are afraid that if they induce me earlier id have to get a c-section and i dont want to get one because this is my first baby. I’m sick of being pregnant and I want her out already!!!! So im walking like crazy and i guess ill try the sex method. I’m looking for ways to help my cervix dilate and soften before the date of my induction. Im getting very nervous and anxious

does it only work if he lets the sperm in you or does it work just having sex?

My husband and I hit the sheets and nothing. we tried a couple times. The thing with this “labor inducing” technique is that it depends on more than just the act. studies show that semen has a natural labor inducing horomone in it that helps soften the cervix. The women having and orgasim is suppose to lead to contractions. Really labor happens when the baby gives the go ahead. It all depends on your body and if the baby is ready or not. So relax, learn some, patients because your going to need a lot of it!!

After reading ALL the comments listed- I am going to put my fears aside and give into the needy husband. I’m 38 weeks 4 days and can’t wait for this to be done with. This is our third child, first was after a LONG day of walking at Mt. Rainier the water broke that evening. Second was a planed induction with breaking water. Now I just want this done with. Well ladies.. after an eventful night… I’ve only had contractions steadily all day long. Nothing enough to go to the family birthing center, or call the doctor… but enough to know ‘hey… it might be working!”.
So at this point- if it happens anytime soon… I’ll give in to the account that sex might HELP induce- but it did not put me into full swing labor like some people have claimed earlier in the thread. Each person is different, and best of luck to you all!

I am 38 weeks and have had lots of sex and multiple orgasms along with several contractions, but not enough to put me in labor, but within a week (from 37 weeks) i went from 1cm dilated and long, hard cervix to 2cm dilated with very soft cervix, so I believe sperm and orgasms can help progress or may even start labor, but no matter what I am getting induced for the 3rd time with our 3rd baby girl so at least I’m ready for an induction and cannot wait, yay!!

I agree that orgasim brings on contractions. I am 36 weeks due april 16th with babe no.2, and realy cant wait to get this baby out. i have had a terrible pregnancy this time, been nausea the entire time and having realy bad pelvic pain since i was 6 weeks! so feeling pretty miserable, cant walk, cant sit, cant stand and cant sleep, which is incredibly frustrating when you have a 2 year old to look after! so i have been drinking raspberry leaf tea and using my vibrator to have orgasims as my husband has been working away. on friday night while i had an orgasim with my vibrator i thought my waters had broke, a realy big gush of warm clear liquid, went to the hospital,was having realy strong contractions. every 4 mins,but it was not my waters but i had stimulated my bladder and had wee’d instead. dr did an internal and cervix is realy closed, so all my orgasims have done is cause contractions, i think you need the seamen to work on the cervix, so as soon as hubbie is back from work he’s getting it! he’ll think all his christmases have come at once! good luck to everyone else!

I am 41 weeks and 2 days. We have intercourse almost everyday and I touch myself everyday (sometimes twice a day) to take this baby out because I don’t want to be induced. I also did acupuncture which left a $ 90 hole in my bank account. I still exercise everyday as well. These “tricks” will work when the baby is ready to come out.

Sex does work, I was dilated with my first pregnancy 1cm and the night before I went to the doctor for my 37 1/2 week check up we had sex. I had contractions every 8 to 12 minutes apart and decided to go to bed. When I got to my doctor appointment I was 3cm and 75% effaced and having contractions I couldn’t feel. I was in labor and didn’t know it and was induced the rest of the way. It really does work.

I was 4 days over due with my now 4 year old bout to be 5 year’s old next month daughter. I told my mid-wife i was going home to have sex with my husband to start the labor. So she said i should try to break the mucus plug and come back when i do. So we went home and had sex that night. The next morning as soon as i got up i seen the blood and slime which mean i broke the mucus plug. So i went back to the doctor and they kept me because the contraction’s had started so i had her later on that day. I was so happy because with my 11 year old son i was in labor from thursday to sunday so i had to be induced 3 times before i had him. And with my 6 year old daughter i was 4 days over due and was in labor for 2 days before i had her and had my labor induced twice. So yes i think sex help. But at the same time everybody is different so i cant tell nobody what to expect. But that is what happened when i tryed the sex.

I am 37 weeks. last week i was 1 cm dilated. Im so uncomfortable and ready for this baby. Ive tried sex and it just dosent seem to work. I get very intense cramps and back pain right after for a few hours but eventually it goes away and nothing happens any advice??

I am hoping this trick works for me, as I will have to be induced before my supposed due date anyway…but I do believe that any of these methods of natural induction that you can read about are ineffective unless your body itself is ready to start the laboring process. My doctor told me that it’s NOT a wive’s tale, but that sperm actually contains pitocin which is a chemical that induces labor. So, it’s got nothing to do with orgasm, but with sperm being released into the woman’s body. He said, “You ever wonder why there are so many women going into labor in the middle of the night?”….I now need to confirm this medically.

Semen does NOT contain Pitocin. It contains prostaglandins, but not in large enough quantities.

I think it is not the orgasm that induces labor, but the introduction of semen. Doesn’t semen have something in it that slightly opens the cervix…useful for fertalization, but also helps to shorten and thin the cervix in late pregnancy?

It is both the semen and the orgasm. The semen is said to help ripen your cervix, whereas the orgasm will release oxytocin. Now, for all of you that think ok, here is a sure fire way.. ITS NOT!! Unfortunately, like every other way out there ( castor oil, cohosh, teas, etc..), it is only go to work if baby is ready!! I am 3 days over due with my 5th child. I have been 3 cm dilated with her for about 4 weeks. My water has never broken, it has always had to be broken for me, I have also always gone two weeks to the day over due every time! This time I am doing things with a different dr and he refuses to break my water right now because my cervix is still higher then the baby’s head. I tried to explain to him that that is how it always is and it will NOT drop till my water is broken. He says he has never heard of that, so he will not break my water. So, my husband and I decided to take things into our own hands. We have had lots of sex, there has been nothing but spicy food ( surprisingly, no heart burn at all this week, even though I was plagued with it from even drinking water all pregnancy), lots of squats, jumping jacks, up and down the stairs, I walk for at least 4 hours a day and the last two nights we took a quick, but incredibly bumpy couple of rides down the old rail road tracks on our quad. NOTHING!! So, I am going to say that like everything else out there, its only going to work, if and when that baby is ready to come!!!

im coming up 37 weeks i ended up in hospital with contractions that we sky high and i couldnt stand or walk but i wasnt dilating AT all this is my 3rd baby,by the time i lfelt to go home they said i was 1 cm dilated and im still have contractions on and off everyday and some are so bad,this has been going on for 4 days now!does anyone think tryig the sex thing will help being it all together so its the real deal soon?

sex never help us im 38weeks and we keep having sex to have the baby early as possible coz im a tiny person and shes gettin heavy so bad. this is my 2nd pregnancy at my 1st child I did hv him 36weeks my hubby is not home a lot. Bt evrything went smoothly this time its sucks!!!! So what im gonna say is whenever thier ready to come out.He or she will let u know time will tell.not somebodies experienced coz each woman are unique.

I think what may make a difference is the type of orgasm. Is it a clitoral orgasm or a g- spot orgasm? No one was specific about the type of orgasm. Any comment to this?

im on my forth pregnancy and i have induced with all three of the other pregnancies, the trick is to be at least 38 weeks and to have an orgasim, hubby has to ejaculate inside of you and then try to keep it in there for a little while. there is something in his semin that softens the cervics just like pitocen and if you have an orgasim your uturis will start to contract. so try and see, sometimes it will take a few tries, but each time you will get closer to labor……i know you make dilation progress if you don’t actually go all the way into labor. so in the end when you do go into labor you should have already started your dilation.

I tried the sex at the end of pregnancy with my first and nothing happened. But again with my 2nd and in the middle of the night i went into labor. He was born on his due date. My oldest was 2 weeks late.

Orgasm + Semen worked for me. Husband and I remained very sexually active during the entire pregnancy. I was 39 weeks when we danced, then had sex. We orgasmed at the exact same time and my orgasm went from an amazing feeling to an excruciating ‘real deal’ contraction.

6 hours later our first daughter was born! I know, without a doubt, it was the semen + orgasm that sent me into full blown labor!

My opinion is that it does work because almost every time since I was seven months, sex brought on contractions. But we never kept going so I would contract for a little while then stop, but it does bring on very painful contractions.

I am eight months pregnant, and my boyfriend and I have had sex through out this whole pregnancy. Most of the time the sex would give me braxton hicks. The closer I get to my due date the more it hurts to have sex at all. It feels almost like my cervix has moved and is closer than it was. I know this is probably not the case but I wanted to know if anyone had any advice about that. Also does anyone know if the fact that sex has given me braxton hicks could make it more probable for sex to actually send me into labor? Any advice would be great!

Iam 34 weeks pregnant the day before I went to the dr me and my hubby had sex the next day I was dilated to a 2 so when I go to dr in 2 days iam going to have sex again to see what he tells me but I do think sexs work for some people not all good luck to everyone

I juss turnd 9 mnths yesterday nd had my weekly visit today. The doctor said my cervix was thin and her head was fully dwn. She encouraged me tew walk but i was to lazy to walk alone. It is nw 1:56 nd i juss had sex a few minutes ago… Lets hope it wrks…btw congrats everyone

My Dr told me that I was not even close to having my 3rd child even though my due date was only a couple of day away. She said to go home and have sex (very happy husband!!!) as what was in semen was also in the gel they use to induce you. That was on the Friday and by Monday morning our little girl had been born

When i had my first child May 10,07 he was due on the 19th i believe, but i had sex with my BF between 10pm-11pm and i went into labor about 3am the following morning so i believe it works. I have 4 sons, and labor was brought on by sex for all 4. All 4 were 2-3 weeks early, but I was ready to be done. Doggie style and an orgasm will do it every time for me!

I am trying this time around because I am just ready to be done. I am hoping it works. I had sex around615 last night and started having contractions around 8 and they last til 12ish… I tried again this morning and am hoping the contractions start up again real soon.

Well after reading all these comments I will be trying sex with the husband tonight. I was 6 days late with my first daughter (husband was in Afghanistan) with my second daughter she came 2 days before her due date (I think there was just too much stress around) & now I’m currently 37 weeks pregnant (today) with a boy. My girls are 1 & 2 years old and trying to chase them and relax there is just not enough time in a day! I feel as if I’ve been pregnant forever and I never actually have been sexually active during any of my pregnancies so I’m just a bit curious if this will work. I’ve been uncomfortable for weeks. I had gotten into a car accident a couple weeks ago and was having contractions but the hospital gave me the shot to stop the contractions. I’m just now curious if this will work or not for me. If I wasn’t as uncomfortable as I have been lately then I wouldn’t consider trying this. Well I guess ill be finding out soon if it worked!

Sex worked for us. My wife went into labour within the hour of having sex. 4hrs later our second son was born.

She is now 39 weeks with #3 however we are going to wait till 40 weeks before trying as the baby must be ready, otherwise its useless.

Also, please note that trying to induce labour before 38 weeks without your doctors approval is dangerous for the baby. So DON’T try anything before asking your doctor!

Actually, having an oragasm has nothing to do with this little trick. In fact, you don’t even have to have sex if you don’t want as that can make you sore. It’s actually the semen that causes labor. Semen has a natural level of pitocin. (the medication used to induce) so..yea… All of your arguments are pointless.

The word you’re looking for is oxytocin, not Pitocin. Pitocin is the synthetic form of oxytocin. Oxytocin is a hormone that can be released in many ways, including nipple stimulation, sexual activity, snuggling, etc. So orgasm is one source of oxytocin and therefore can encourage labor if it’s found in sufficient quantity.

Semen doesn’t contain Pitocin or Oxytocin. The theory behind semen in helping labor along is from prostaglandins. These are supposed to help soften the cervix, making it more likely to open and thin in labor.

There is really a finely orchestrated dance between all of the hormones and mechanisms in labor. The body is so amazing!

I am a nursing student working in labor and delivery and the #1 way we get moms in labor is called “gels” now these “gels” are actually pig sperm! So yes, sex with orgasm will induce labor if your body is ready. That is how they do it in the hospital they just dont tell you “pig sperm”. Sperm in a prostaglandin that helps bring about labor, and nipple stimulation releases oxytocin which helps bring about labor as well. Now… the gels do not always work, so your body does have to be ready, and if it is then sex should work just fine! I choose my husbands sperm over pig sperm anyday!

At 6 months pregnant I didnt feel like sex for 2 weeks, every other day of my pregnancy we had sex and I went 5 days over. I think if sex does bring on labour it is only in women that have not had it in a while and possibly stimulate some muscles or you just convince yourself and its the power of the mind that sets it off.

So I had sex almost every single day of my pregnancy and it didnt change a thing. I did how ever have a 2.5 hour labour and went home that day with not a stitch.
